Sparrowhawks, hawks and of course the legendary swallow – people in Suhl in Thuringia have always had a heart for poultry. The star hatched in the spring of 1996 as the youngest member of the bird flock. The independently designed scooter, however, remained a nestling in its first few weeks of life. This was due to the inability of Italian suppliers to be able to offer a performance-tuned exhaust for the Morini engine. The initially assembled universal pot ensured that the star did not come out of the cross properly. The people of Suhl resorted to self-help and designed the performance-determining part themselves. And lo and behold, the star became a high-flyer: the engine hangs cleanly on the gas, revs up quickly and also accelerates properly uphill. When it came to the chassis, the tried and tested Simson virtues were remembered from the start. Elliptical suspension travel and driving stability well above the usual scooter standard make the Star also suitable for country roads of the very last order. The front brake is excellent, the equipment is good and there is plenty of space except for the somewhat limited footwell. Anyone looking for a scooter that pleasantly stands out from the Far East all sorts is in any case well served with the feathered friend from Thuringia.
