The absolute Monster! This is how Ducati describes its new big roadster as one of the most famous family of naked machines. After the 696 which had ushered in the new face of the line for the coming decade, it was foreseeable that the range would repeat itself on this theme of renewal.. This 1100 is thus the 2nd to receive the new chassis and the new design of the Monster. On this occasion, it is grafted on the big 1078 cc of the Hypermotard and Multistrada; making it the biggest air-cooled monster in the history of the range.
Big displacement, big torque, and if its 95 horsepower does not seem amazing to you, do not forget that Ducati fiercely defends its desmodromic twins backed by air cooling and 2 valves per cylinder. Less power out but available much earlier, with more character, and over 10 mkg in bundles.
But Ducatists and neophytes alike will spend more time detailing this beautiful gem of Bologna than criticizing the team. The general appearance echoes the 696 style, with a single stylized headlight, minimalist trellis frame supported by aluminum side plates, double pot under the saddle edges, small mirrors and fully digital instrumentation unit. But to be an 1100, you have to have more class, more stature.
This translates into the presence of a beautifully crafted single-sided arm, most certainly stung from the 848/1098 duo. A very admirable piece that visually releases the superb Y-rim. In front, we drool even more. It’s a sleek and sexy 43mm Ohlins inverted fork that we find on this S trim, with Brembo radial calipers. The carbon parts save a bit of weight, but it’s the work on the whole machine that speaks the most. This Monster 1100 S drops to 168 kg dry, almost 10 less than the previous S2R 1000.
Compact, characterful, well-equipped, and the first to stand out, the new 1100 Monster should succeed without worrying its entry into the roadsters of temperament..
The 1100 Monster is also available as a standard version for 11,200 euros, but you won’t have the Ohlins fork, nor the gold color on the rims, less carbon parts, and 1 kg more to carry.
