The Scrambler is now available in 3 displacements, 400 – 800 – 1100. With the big Desmodue of 1079 cm3, the vintage Ducati motorcycle takes on confidence, torque and presence. It is no longer the beach, wheel, waves and summer party style toy; it becomes a motorcycle a bit more serious but still villainous. In short, the same but bigger.
When we say serious, it is very relative. But for the Sport version, we laugh less and we make gringue to sports fans. Too easy but so obvious. Without pouring into the cafe-racer, this 1100 Scrambler pays particular attention to more dynamic efficiency. And to do this, Ducati calls on its favorite equipment manufacturers to boost its top-of-the-range models: Ohlins and Brembo.
The Scrambler 1100 Sport presents a most equivocal appearance. Confident, dressed, well dressed, he does not need to overdo it and exudes a very natural class. Black is in the spotlight on the trim, which highlights the advantages of this edition all the more: the yellow stripe bands running the length of the bike, the perimeter of the interchangeable aluminum tank sides, and above all, Ohlins depreciation. Sports enthusiasts will appreciate the efficiency and road feel provided by the Swedish suspensions, highlighting the most muscular Scrambler in the range. He is thus rewarded with an inverted fork of 48 mm and a shock absorber of high quality, both fully adjustable..
As with the other 1100 Scramblers, the Sport is fitted with Brembo M4.32 4-piston radial brake calipers. Enough to slow down hard, with insistence and assurance. But even if it means making a more rigorous version, why not have installed M50s? ? Surely because it would not have brought much more given the power and the use of the machine; except maybe an ego overlay.
This version ends its differences with a specific saddle, marked with stitching, and a low handlebar.
The power ? That’s 86 horsepower for everyone and 9 mkg with the twin two-valve. Almost wise values and yet perfectly in line with the philosophy of this bike. A character from the late 90s, responsive in mid-range and the pride of having powered the latest version of the big air Monster.
The latter had already tasted the new technological era, with injection, ABS and anti-slip. For the 1100 Scrambler, Sport, Standard or Special, the level has been raised. The in-house technologies are in the right measure, with active ABS when cornering, 4-level and disconnectable traction control, ride-by-wire, 3 Driving Modes (Active, Journey, City), lighting entirely with LEDS + daytime running light, a USB socket under the seat and a digital instrument panel with 2 screens.
Thus equipped, the 1100 Scrambler can parade while offering another version of the Sport. Not that of streetfighters, sportswomen or cafe-racers – his. Of those of the neo-retros who don’t give a damn about the performances to waver in the demonstration.
