Your thing is to trudge on rolling paths? And do you like the Ducati Scrambler? Then the Desert Sled is for you. Not intimidated for two cents by the maquis, the back corners of Larzac or the dawn of a Californian desert, the machine wants to catch those moments of dust that we like to express in the evening during the aperitif.

Some small improvements are on the program for 2019. None change its missions; Ducati is simply taking an opportunity to upgrade a series of elements. The frame is so moved that it turns red; remarkable contrast with the white casing and black aromas. The engine was also soaked in it then rubbed with a blow of the strawberry on the cooling fins. The evolution of the decoration is also the only one at the aesthetic level.
It’s more bushy on the technical side. Like any “phase II” Scrambler, it is equipped with a hydraulic clutch control and adjustable levers. The instrument panel now displays a fuel gauge and the gear engaged. Discreetly but useful at the right time, the on-board electronics reinforce the efficiency of the ABS with the Cornering system, modulating the force according to the angle. We also note the arrival of an “Off-road” driving mode deactivating the ABS, automatic stop indicators, a new DRL light signature, more ergonomic stems and the Ducati multimedia system. We will be able to connect our smartphone, playlists and calls with the Scrambler.

Kayaba elements develop 200mm of travel both front and rear. This Scrambler benefits from better ground clearance and a higher saddle perched, 860mm from the ground.

Of course, spoke rims are a must. 19 inches at the front and 17 at the rear, with tires suitable for touring, Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR. When it comes to braking, there’s what it takes with a 330mm disc complete with a Brembo M4.32 4-piston radial caliper at the front. Behind, there is a 245 mm with a piston.

No change on the engine side. Like other Scramblers, the Desert Sled trusts the 73 horsepower of the 803cc twin. Funny, available and playful, the Italian block is stamped Euro4. A calibration of the injection made it run a little smoother some time ago..
As with all models in the family, a good swig of accessories will allow you to decorate this machine ready for a lot of country eccentricities..
