Ducati 1299 Superleggera (2017)

Ducati presented the new Ducati 1299 Superleggera in the run-up to EICMA 2016 in Milan. The new super sports car was made from the finest parts and is limited to 500 copies.

The electronics come from the MotoGP bike; the brakes and the chassis are used on the Ducati bikes in the Superbike World Cup. Most of the other components of this Supersport missile are made of carbon. And last but not least, there is the new Superquadro two-cylinder engine, which is supposed to produce an incredible 215 hp at 11,000 rpm as standard. The ingredients used in the manufacture of the Ducati 1299 Superleggera have been used sound more than promising.

According to its own statement, with the new Ducati 1299 Superleggera, Ducati wants to venture into unprecedented spheres of style, elegance and performance – an ambitious goal, as we think. However, if you take a look at the individual components and key data, most racing enthusiasts will have the mouth watering.

Carbon as far as the eye can see

The monocoque, single-sided swing arm, wheels, rear frame and fairing are made of carbon. The tank is made of aluminum. If you compare the weight of the components used in the Ducati 1299 Superleggera with those of the Ducati 1299 Panigale, you get a huge weight saving thanks to the carbon parts. The carbon monocoque, for example, weighs 1.7 kilograms less than the aluminum monocoque of the Panigale. The single-sided swing arm is 0.9 kilograms lighter in comparison. The carbon-made wheels with the Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tires weigh 1.4 kilograms less than the wheels of the Panigale. A new lithium-ion battery also saves a further 1.7 kilograms in weight. Unfortunately, Ducati did not reveal how much the new Superleggera ultimately weighs.

The electronics package of the new Ducati 1299 Superleggera comes from MotoGP. The manufacturer from Bologna equips the new super sports car with the 6-axis inertial measurement unit (6D IMU) from Bosch, which provides the driver with various assistance systems. In addition to the Ducati Traction Control Evo (traction control), the Bosch sensor provides the pilot with the assistance systems Ducati Slide Control (drift assistant), Ducati Wheelie Control Evo (wheelie control), Ducati Power Launch (jump start), Lean ABS, Engine Brake Control (brake assistant) and Ducati Data Analyzer + GPS (data analysis) ready.

Racing kit increases power to 220 hp

Buyers of the Ducati 1299 Superleggera also receive a racing kit consisting of a titanium exhaust system from Akrapovic, a motorcycle tarpaulin, a front and rear wheel stand, blind plugs to cover various dismantled parts, a racing windshield and an electrical kit to remove the side stand consists.

Thanks to the racing kit, the weight of the Superleggera is reduced again and the output increases to 220 hp. However, this will invalidate the road approval.

Price and availability Ducati 1299 Superleggera

The Ducati 1299 Superleggera costs 79,000 euros. Ducati has not yet announced when the market launch is – but it is also of no interest to us normal mortals, because all 500 Superleggeras have already been sold according to Ducati.
