For 10 years, with each new generation of sports car, Ducati has offered a top-notch version of the newborn. The Panigale V4 honors this tradition, after the 1199 Panigale S Tricolore and 1098 S Tricolore. Identifiable without detour with their patriotic attachment illustrated by a decoration in Italian colors, these special series claim a high pedigree and a sportiness of choice.. The Panigale V4 is no exception to the rule except on the surname. It is not called Tricolore but Speciale. And she is really special.

Announced for 214 horses in this 1103 cm3 configuration, the “Desmosedici Stradale” wants to unravel everything that moves with the Panigale V4 Speciale. Fortunately, Ducati is one of the brands that has the most electronic safeguards in its machines. The engine will thus see its ardor curbed by the improved versions of traction control (DTC Evo), anti-wheeling, (DWC Evo), Up & Down shifter (DQS Evo) and engine brake control (EBC Evo). To complete the deal, there is the stopped start assistant (DPL) and the anti-lock brakes active in bends (ABS Cornering Bosch EVO). The Panigale V4 inaugurates a new member, the Ducati Slide Control (DSC), to control the glide on the angle according to the information sent by the IMU inertial unit. All this electronics is supervised by three driving modes – Race, Sport and Street – each calibrating the settings more or less sportingly, with also the management of the suspensions.
La Speciale adds an element, the DLT GPS, which comes in addition to the DDA + GPS. It allows the lap time, the best lap and the maximum speed to be stored and viewed on the instrument panel for a total of 15 consecutive laps. We will take the opportunity to pay even more attention to the high-resolution TFT screen.
The Panigale V4 S and Speciale snatch up the high end for their damping. Ohlins is still answering the call, with a 43mm diameter NIX30 inverted fork and TTX36 shock. These elements are controlled in real time by the Smart EC 2.0 system, which is more efficient and faster than that of the 1299 Panigale S, in order to adapt the links to the ground continuously. The wheels are not forgotten by opting for Marchesini in forged aluminum, hence a good part of the weight saving.
Because the Speciale weighs 3 kilos less than the Panigale V4. Another part of the weight saved comes from the Lithium-Ion battery and special parts. Here we find adjustable footrests, an alcantara saddle, racing levers, brake lever protection, an authentication plate and some carbon parts: mudguards, heel guard and swingarm cover. But not the fairing … Quid!?! It’s very mean, especially considering the price; and when you think most of the “premium” Ducati Superbikes were dressed in this kind of light dress.
Even the “track” kit will have difficulty getting the pill through, although it is supplied: Ducati Performance titanium line by Akrapovic, screen and racing tank cap, kit to replace the license plate holder, covers for the locations of the retro, and a cover to cover the beautiful.
The rest of the bike is identical to the standard version, which is already of high caliber. With its large perimeter aluminum frame, its enormous single-sided swingarm, its Brembo M4.30 Stylema brake calipers (stiffer and lighter than the M50s), its line cut in speed and its panther look.
It is promised to 1500 copies, and will have no trouble finding suitors. We don’t want to talk about performance, or reason, or passion. And even less exception. We’re just gonna fantasize, and hear the coming storm.
