Ducati HM 1100 HYPERMOTARD evo 2010

The Ducati Hypermotard has attracted all curiosities since its inception, both for its design and for its existence. Because even if the Bologna plant has made it clear to us that it emancipates itself far beyond its Superbike machines, we are always surprised to see it experimenting with concepts rather revealed by craftsmen. Except that this shocking supermotard has retained the Ducati identity: character, efficiency, and a look !

Why settle for good when you can have the best?!? Here is the answer: Hypermotard 1100 Evo. The same idea, the still sporty silhouette, the same ingredients, with less fat in the cocktail and more punch in the lemon.
There, the 1078 cc twin, there…. can’t we get something more out of it ??? Is there no way I can improve this desmo ??? But yes, we do not panic. Let’s see what Ducat ’can pull out of his pocket of tricks. First of all, breathe. A new air box, revised intake and exhaust ducts, a new camshaft in the cylinder heads with greater valve lift, new pistons to take the increase in the compression ratio (it goes from 10, 7 to 11.3: 1), a different ignition with a single spark plug (2 before), and that gives us 5 horsepower. We will even facilitate their galloping with an 848 engine flywheel..
Hop, come back guys. As long as you improve this, can’t you do something about it as well? Maybe there’s some weight to be gained, right?!? With the Vacural pressure and vacuum molding process, we were able to pick up 3.2 kilos on the housings. A new starter freewheel saves another 1250 g, magnesium covers save another 750 g, and in the end, the twin was reduced by 5.2 kilos.
Still trellis, the frame uses the same type of construction as for the 796 HM. As a result, fewer welds, a better finish, and 1,800 gr of flies. This general development is accompanied by new Siemens electronics and an oil cooler with an exchange surface area of 85%..
What didn’t change didn’t need it. To guide the beast, it’s still a big Marzocchi inverted fork 50mm in diameter, with Brembo radial calipers on 305mm discs. The imperturbable rear gives pride of place to style, with its single-sided arm from the long line of the 916 – 1098 and its evocative double exhaust under the saddle. Under the eyes, a new dashboard directly from the superbikes of the brand accentuates the sporting trend.

Noticeably more efficient, the 1100 HM Evo suffers, however, from what required the most more work: its engine. Much improved, it still lacks extension, and can not stand the comparison against the furious like the KTM 990 SM and its 115 donkeys. Okay, the Katoche is more violent, and the Hypermotard will be a little easier to dominate with his less elitist ardor; but if you want accessible, isn’t the HM 796 more suitable?!? Maybe this Evo would have been perfect if it had adopted the liquid twin of the 1198…. Let’s be courteous: the 1100 Evo remains a superb, highly efficient toy on the road, with a very attractive personality. Fanfan understood it before everyone else; he only parted reluctantly, without anyone coming to take his suite in the garage.
