What a beast this 1200 Multistrada. New design in total break with the old one, new frame with steel tube trellis connected to plates (as on the monsters of the new generation), radial braking system, new rims, double exhaust outlet in low position to optimize the distribution of the masses, and the end of the end, the engine of the superbike 1198.
No more air-cooled twin-cylinder, place for the most modern and technological Ducati mechanics. The heart of the 1200 Multistrada is therefore the engine of the sportiest Bolognese. This is already impressive, but the rest is breathtaking. The engine is calmed down to increase its availability at mid-range, but we didn’t expect it to send out so many nags: 150 horsepower !!!! This is the first trail that offers the same power to weight ratio as a 1st generation R1. Powerful and growling, the twin responds without hesitation and carries you like a missile. To believe that this trail would like to offer Troy Bayliss the same feelings as when he piloted the 1198 of SBK. In its version equipped with self-adjusting suspensions (depending on the driving mode selected), the Multistrada offers real sporting pleasure, faithful to the Ducati identity. It pushes vigorously, it bangs down, it brakes with gusto, and it doesn’t need to be done to behave excitedly. For your information, the Pirelli Scorpion tires developed for it are designed to handle 270 km / h.
The real strength of this 1200 version of the Multistrada is its increased versatility, and located at the top of the basket. Easy to take, rather comfortable (especially in the appropriate electronic mode), the machine bends to the required use with great conviction. Select one of the four modes (Sport – Touring – Urban – Enduro) and take advantage of the capabilities of the Multi 1200. Far from being a commercial gadget, the mode selector controls both suspension adjustment and electronic engine management, with real differences in behavior. Fancy a stroll or arousal, the Ducat ’adapts. Well, don’t try to ride special KTM EXC trails when you have the Enduro mode engaged. The Italian trail is not really made for that.
A heart of hypersportive, a nervous system of NASA. The 1200 Multistrada has taken a big step in electronics. Just the face of the dashboard lets you understand the high level of on-board technology. It’s almost worse than a 2D handset used in MotoGP.
The equipment is also very pleasant, closer to a German sedan than a Turin car. Adaptive depending on the mode chosen, the suspensions can also be easily adjusted via the on-board console. Also present are ABS, anti-slip, a keyless start system, heated grips, an adjustable windshield – ‘Please note, some of these elements are only available on the high-end versions. The S version is adorned with Ohlins elements, and the S Touring adds a luggage kit.
