Ducati Diavel 1260 at EICMA

Power cruiser even sportier

Ducati will be presenting the new Diavel 1260 at EICMA 2018. The power roadster will be even sportier and clearly trimmed for a power naked bike.

Under the name "Project 1309" the D.iavel of the 2019 class. However, if you think of the cubic number, you are wrong: the number code stands for the ninth project of 2013. Even back then, two years after the first Diavel was presented, the developers in Bologna were obviously thinking about a sportier version. Accordingly, the engine is the V-twin-cylinder Testastretta DVT with 1,262 cc, which also drives the large Multistrada and the XDiavel and with 156 hp at 9,500 / min and a maximum torque of 129 Nm at 7,500 / min is ideal.

Exhaust and assistance systems

Unlike the previous Diavel, it does not flow into two mufflers on the right-hand side, but into a compact exhaust system that sits centrally under the motorcycle. According to the engineers, this improves steering behavior, center of gravity and mass distribution – in short: the driving pleasure is greater and corresponds to that of a naked bike.

In terms of equipment, Ducati has given the new Diavel practically everything that technology currently has to offer: ABS cornering, blipper for shifting gears without using the clutch lever, wheelie and traction control, cruise control and three different driving modes (sport, touring and urban). In addition, there is the Ducati Power Launch (DPL), a jump starter that can be activated at the push of a button, which helps to achieve a brilliant traffic light start with an ingenious control of traction and wheelie control and which was previously reserved for the Ducati XDiavel.

Ducati Diavel 1260 becomes more active driving

The better rideability and the naked bike character are accommodated by the new chassis data: The steering head angle has been changed from 62 to 63 degrees, which is more comfortable, as is the increased travel on the rear wheel from 120 to 134 mm. The seating position remains the same, because the developers consider it a good compromise between sporting and tourist use. The S version of the new Diavel, which was on display in Misano, scores with an Ohlins chassis, while the standard version comes from Marzocchi and Sachs.

And the look? The Diavel looks slimmer, grimmer, sportier. This is mainly due to the crisp, short exhaust system, but also to the new LED headlights, which are reminiscent of the XDiavel, and the narrower rear with the also new LED taillight. As with the XDiavel, the indicators are integrated into the low-level license plate holder. It remains with the mighty rear wheel, but because of the modified engine, Pirelli developed a special Diablo Rosso 3 for the motorcycle.

Tourist talents

Although the engine and some optical solutions have been adopted from the XDiavel, the new Diavel should be even more different from it. The XDiavel came onto the market in 2016 and, with its long wheelbase, footpegs placed far forward and stunning looks, is actually a cruiser, albeit a very sporty one. The new Diavel, on the other hand, presents itself as a power mix: visual echoes of a cruiser, chassis data such as a naked bike and tourist talents – Ducati promotes these with an accessory range of suitcases, windshields and sissy bars.

S version, colors, market launch, price

The Ducati Diavel 1260 is available in silver-gray with a black frame and black wheels. For the S version, there is also an option in black and dark gray with a red frame and black wheels. It also comes with a fully adjustable Ohlins chassis, M50 monoblocks from Brembo, LED headlights with daytime running lights, quickshifter, multimedia system and a dedication on the seat cushion.

The new Ducati Diavel 1260 is available at prices from 19,990 euros, the S version starts at 22,890 euros. The new Diavel will be available to dealers from February 2019.
