Father-Suzuki Bandit 1200 S test
My dear father
No question about it, the man could be from Swabia. Someone who doesn’t give a rest. Tinker and tinker, screw and file. Always wanting to have everything perfect. And then? Not a word, not a sound. At best, an "i han da something", but only on request. And a subtle "powered by Rainer Vater" on the panel.
The Suzuki dealer based in the Swabian town of Bondorf is, however, a native of Brandenburg ?? and doesn’t speak with dialect either. But otherwise ?? that fits. At least as far as the 1200 bandit he optimized. "Engine tuning for everyone" had written father in the specifications. Reliable, suitable for everyday use, for a small budget (1700 euros). And therefore exactly suitable for the bestseller B.andit 1200 S, since this season also available in the Suzuki house colors blue and white.
They suit the big bandit just as well as the tuning measures (see box) the finely ribbed evergreen. Father promises 136 hp instead of the nominal 98, although for the sake of order it must be noted that the specimens measured by MOTORRAD have so far all been significantly above the manufacturer’s specification. Nevertheless: The 138 hp on the clutch delivered by the father Suzuki are a wonderful thing, also in view of the 112 series hp.
Especially since they not only go hand in hand with a torque increase of 14 Newton meters, but also with an allure-free performance except for the somewhat unwilling start behavior and a long warm-up phase. Because what the air / oil-cooled four-valve engine loses below 4000 rpm in relation to series production due to the changed timing is, in view of the still decent guts, definitely to get over. Especially when you contrast this fact with the increase in temperament that sets in from this mark. Then the bandit sprints through the rev range and the five gears with speed, so that it is pure joy. Happy that is only incompletely expressed in numbers (see measurements), even if almost two seconds ahead from zero to 200 km / h is a pound.
Subjectively, a whole new, lively bandit world opens up, which manifests itself not least in the fact that the speedometer needle scurries across the scale as if it were razor. 160, 200, 240, 260, end of scale. And then it goes a little further. Estimated 290 in scale-free no man’s land, measured 251. The extreme advance is due to the smaller pinion (14/45 instead of 15/45). And TÜV is in the works. Because everything has to be in order here in Swabia. dry
MOTORCYCLE measurements
Top speed 251 (230 *) km / h

0 100 km / h 3.3 (3.3) sec
0 ?? 140 km / h 5.1 (5.7) sec

In order to achieve this increase in performance with everyday performance development, Rainer Vater carefully lend a hand. On the inlet side, he changed the air filter box (more air flow) and the jetting of the carburettors (idle jet, main jet, partial load needle). He also revised the standard camshafts. On the exhaust side, the original manifold system does its job, but there is also an SR silencer, including a connecting pipe, specially tailored to father’s needs. For the entire kit, including assembly, 1700 euros are due. That’s 65.38 euros per horsepower. A bargain among tuners.
