La Piega is the fruit of the passion of one man: Roberto Ziletti. A rich Italian entrepreneur who decided to take over the work created by Giuseppe Boselli, the founder of Mondial. Count Boselli had the opportunity to sympathize with Soïchiro Honda in the 1950s… The winged brand is not ungrateful and allows the Italian manufacturer to benefit from the technology of its twin SP-1 to power the Piega. Before getting to the heart of the matter, let’s take a look at this new sports car. The design is inspired by famous Italian references, Bimota and Ducati in mind. The whole is pleasant but does not leave a memory stuck in the retina as does a Ducati 996 or a Yamaha R1. Under its dress, the Piega has brought together some very fine attire: chrome vanadium trellis frame, Paioli inverted fork, Ohlins damper, specific titanium silencer and Brembo gold series brakes. You already understand the excellence of the price. It should be noted that this Mondial will be produced in small annual quantities and in an almost artisanal way. Presented under questionable weather conditions, the pilot and the machine are reluctant to set off on the track.
Installed on board, we are immediately put to the scent. It’s sport and nothing else. Do not plan to take it out to dawdle in the undergrowth. Radical driving position, everything on the arms … a Japanese hypersport appears like a GT in comparison. Handicapped by the poor adjustment of the suspensions, the Piega however shows a prodigious liveliness. The brakes are matched on the soaked track of the test, offering power but feeling to avoid leaving in peanuts. The twin receives a specific mapping, gains watts but lacks extension above 8000 trs. The injection remains to be fine-tuned because it causes too many jerks, which have a certain propensity to unbalance the motorcycle. Not really at ease and still suffering from small flaws, the 1000 Piega however seems to have a great potential. In any case, his boss believes in it, and he refuses nothing to him.
