Engine misfires on Buell 1125 CR

We the Buell 1125 CR, a magnetic switch sometimes closes the throttle valve despite full throttle. The explanations made by the manufacturer are surprising.

Now gas! The track is clear, MOTORRAD editor Norbert Kappes starts to sprint, but the Buell 1125 CR does not respond. As if someone pulled the plug. A car going around behind a stunned colleague can barely prevent a rear-end collision with screeching tires. A pretty blatant box of jam. Because the Test-Buell usually accelerated without these hiccups, a defect was initially suspected and the test machine was replaced. However, a Buell technician found no fault.

After the second test machine showed the same behavior, MOTORRAD went to investigate the cause. After many tests, the connections became clear: The two-cylinder only spit away if you suddenly switch the gas in second or third gear in the lower speed range (top test in MOTORRAD 24/2008). Obviously ?? suspected ?? the 1125 CR then does a noise measurement and refuses to accept the throttle. Technically, this brutal stalling measure is caused by the "active intake system". of the 1125 models. A powerful magnetic switch closes the throttle valve again at lightning speed despite the gas being open, for about two or three seconds. Then all of a sudden, as if by magic, the throttle valves are back on draft. The intervention only occurs at speeds between 40 and 50 km / h, as MOTORRAD determined on the test bench. Otherwise the magnetic switch has a break. By the way: If you pull the cable off the magnetic switch, does the Buell run flawlessly? but unfortunately illegal.

When asked, Buell USA commented succinctly on the motorist refusal to work: "Our tests have shown that most customers do not notice the active intake system during normal driving." The Americans’ advice that other manufacturers are also using tricks for noise measurement should be countered: But you don’t notice them with them. MOTORRAD doesn’t know any manufacturer who solves this task so clumsily and with such dangerous consequences. Internally, however, one does not see the matter completely carefree, because at the press launch the active suction system was deactivated according to Buell. Afterwards the motorcycles were retrofitted for road use in accordance with EU guidelines". Oops. By the way, you learn that Buell foisted manipulated motorcycles on the international trade press at the presentation in Berlin without saying a word about it at the event! Instead, the new mapping was praised, which owners of a 1125 R can also have installed. As a journalist you feel somehow bogged down.
