GP of Rep. Czech: Rossi (5th) sees the glass half full, Viñales (14th) drinks the cup !
Yamaha grins tense as an M1 once again takes the lead at the Czech Republic GP, but not Rossi’s and even less Viñales’s ! The Doctor secures the fifth place while his teammate is close to leaving the points… Debriefing.
Valentino Rossi, Yamaha Factory (10th in qualifying and 5th in race) : "It was a good race. OK, the second race in Jerez was better because it finished on the podium and I generally do better in Brno. But I had to start from the fourth row and it has become very complicated now in MotoGP de soaring so far ".
"Nevertheless I felt good on the bike and had a good feeling. I was able to be strong from start to finish, until the last part. It’s a shame that yesterday we made mistakes in qualifying: If I could have started one row before I might have been able to fight for the podium. However, it was a good performance and I enjoyed the race ".

Maverick Viñales, Yamaha Factory (5th in qualifying and 14th in race) : "I think this is my worst result with Yamaha… I don’t know what happened, honestly. This morning, I felt good and I had good lap times, including on worn tires. But in the race , I couldn’t keep the pace, not even a lap! I lost a lot of grip from the start and it got worse little by little. It was very difficult to ride the bike ".
“The only thing left for me to do was finish the race to try to take some points. If I had taken more risks I could have ended up with a ‘zero’, and that would have been a mistake. We took two very valuable points and, on the positive side, the championship leader did not do much today either so it reduced the damage (Quartararo still finished seven places in front of him, Editor’s note). check the data and try to be fast in Austria again ".
MNC analysis : Third MotoGP race and third excellent result of an M1! Problem for Yamaha: it was Quartararo and Morbidelli who signed the best performances with two victories for Fabio in Jerez and a nice second place for "Franky" in Brno. Of course, the factory Yam ‘are never far away, but still: it’s a bit messy !
Regarding Valentino Rossi, his fifth place is rather flattering insofar as he actually started from 10th place on the grid. This departure from the fourth row – associated with the tricky nature of the damaged Czech track – inevitably complicated the task..
Under these conditions, the n ° 46 can be satisfied to have gained five positions (four, if one withdraws Pol Espargaro fallen in front of him). The genius of the mountain pastures recognizes, however, that a podium would have fulfilled him more … in addition to bringing to 200 his balance of podiums in the premier category on this circuit where he won his first Grand Prix in 125 cc in 1996 !
The Doctor consoles himself with the consistency of his race, delighted for the blow to have printed and kept a good pace from start to finish. Rossi, a fine diplomat, does not insist on this point but the message addressed to his employer is clear: Yamaha did well to listen to him and to allow him to return to the previous settings on his M1 !
Viñales (already) confronted with his old demons
Because on the other side of the box, it’s just the opposite: Maverick Viñales, all fired up in Jerez with his two consecutive second places, suddenly sinks in Brno! Once again totally lost on his motorcycle, he invokes as usual mysterious problems with the adhesion of his M1 which would have become impossible to pilot in a few hours. !
Remember that Rossi started with hard-medium tires and Viñales with hard-soft. Could this soft eraser be at the origin of all its ailments? Hard to believe: Franco Morbidelli landed on the same bike with an identical ride.

and Alex Rins – 3rd and 4th respectively – also had a brilliant race with the same "Hard-Soft" association as Viñales. But the most worrying is the admission of helplessness of the Spaniard, who does not even know which way to take his motorcycle to solve the problem. Maybe on the other side of the box, on the M1 stamped with n ° 46 ?!
In the meantime, if Yamaha is leading the "Manufacturers" championship, it is not thanks to its official team: it is the private formation Petronas-SRT which leads the "Teams" classification with 90 points against 69 for the structure. factory in second place! KTM climbs for its part to a brilliant second place in the "Manufacturers" classification: who would have believed it last season ?!
