Disappeared from the Harley catalog in 2008, the Deluxe returned in 2011 with an ABS, a more attractive price, and still its good big twin 96 cubic inches. Then in 2012, she recovered like all Softails the 103 ci. This Twin Cam brings 1690 cm3 of displacement, a few more horses, and a nice slice of torque of over 13 mkg. Its maximum of 132 nm is reached at 3250 rpm. The Softail Deluxe is an invitation to beautiful things. A deliciously retro machine that makes your eyes soft and never ceases to please you. With its whitewall tires fitted with beautiful spoked rims and its very elegant two-tone paintwork, the Harley captivates the eye and invites the past. It almost feels like post-war, the style of the Softail being very inspired by this period. Big mudguards, abundant chrome, stylized flashes and triple optics look, the Deluxe uses its charm before provoking envy. It begins with a tender and benevolent saddle for the posterior. The imposing speedometer grafted onto the tank clearly displays the km / h of the ride; something that we do not care about the handlebars (rather well designed) of the machine. The trick is to let yourself be taken away by the American twin in a relaxed atmosphere. The attack, forget it! It’s not a Dyna Sport and the bike’s philosophy hardly lends itself to it – as do the footpegs that rub in every corner. Too much optimism on the left and the crutch flirts severely with the road, all having taken care to jostle the bike.
The Softail Deluxe drives smoothly and handles smoothly. Road holding is good and can even be effective by winding without brutality. The rear damping does not accept large irregularities and the braking does not really want to work. Conversely, it works more in the bowels of the mill. The 103 is no longer the privilege as in 2010 of the Electra Limited and its muscle is exerted even more brilliantly here. More present, more generous, with a 6-speed gearbox, the twin 103 B fulfills its task much better than its predecessor. It takes the 400 kg of the man-machine assembly without worry on all routes with muscle. There was a little something missing on the 1450; The 1584 gave new expression to the connecting rods, the 1690 gives even more depth, and this taste which makes a mechanism endearing and / or characterful. The charm works and does not let go when you get off the bike. Is it his gaze or yours that is most captivated ?
