The Fat Boy is arguably one of the best known and iconic models in the Harley-Davidson lineup. 20 years after his appearance, a twin brother appeared in 2010, the Fat Boy Special. Presented as a novelty, this model is more like a Fat Boy soaked in a tray of black paint, where only the exhausts would have escaped from drowning. In fact, it goes a step further for this big softail trying to join the Dark Customs family. In terms of finish and refinement details, we perceive that the Twin Cam shelters the black between its cooling fins but lets the chrome invade the rest of the mechanics. The ‘mini beach’ stainless steel handlebars are narrower but larger in diameter, accommodating the electric cables inside. The full rims machine-gunned on the perimeter are also covered in black, except on the edge. Same treatment for the headlight, the exhausts and the fork, dark as night, then ending with a touch of stainless steel. The saddle has been hollowed out by 10 mm which allows the new handlebars to merge with the bike (according to the manufacturer). For this Fat Boy Special, we won’t really be talking about something new but rather a ‘trendy’ version. For 2011, ABS is now standard. And from 2012, an even bigger engine more than justifies the name. All Softails, and therefore the Fat Boy Special, seize the block 103 block. This Twin Cam brings 1690 cm3 of displacement, a few more horsepower, and a nice slice of torque of over 13 mkg. Its maximum of 132 nm is reached at 3250 rpm. The FLSTFB is equipped with a new handlebar whose curvature has been revised for more comfort and better ergonomics.
