Double spark plugs, 4 valves per cylinder, increased displacement, reduced idling vibrations … The Milwaukee Eight gives a new flavor to Harley-Davidson. Like its brother Road King, the Classic takes advantage of this new engine and its deep, grumpy and generous breath.. This long-course custom is bourgeois with a large fifteen mkg obtained at 3250 rpm. Vocals, muscle, pulsed breathing and a level never reached … The Road King Custom has never known such ardor. Except maybe in its old CVO version. The 1746 cm3 block is off to a good start to rally a number of votes and comments.
This mechanical part raised, let’s go back to the essence of this bike. Cross roads, journeys, landscapes and long courses on the handlebars of a Harley. At this idea, the amateur naturally thinks of the Electra Glide. A little taste of nostalgia, a desire for retro, the feeling that time has forgotten to scroll, and it is quite naturally the Road King who intervenes. Two interpretations for the same purpose – fairing and hard cases on one side; windshield and leather saddlebags on the other. A custom carved out of American nobility, designed to go as far as the wind can blow. In addition to engine advancements, FLHRC takes advantage of Rushmore project to optimize the driving experience.
Rushmore is the result of gigantic listening to H-D with its customers and dealers. They want more practice, more comfort. Like all models in the Touring range, the Road King is equipped with the Reflex braking system. Combined with ABS, it automatically balances the power of the brakes between front and rear. This isn’t Harley’s only effort to improve the dynamics of this machine: the fork has recently increased its diameter from 43 to 49 mm. In 2017, this front axle benefits from Showa SDBV technology. The rear put its air suspensions in the closet for a duo of emulsion shock absorbers. Easier to adjust in preload, they will also ensure more consistency. Greater efficiency should punctuate the routes taken by this suitcase cruiser.
The lighting is entrusted to a double halogen, spitting a power of 986 lumens. On the practical side, note a set of quick couplers to easily open the saddlebags – convenient but not very qualitative these plastoc clips under beautiful leather straps. Still for the sake of comfort, more ergonomic controls are installed on the handlebars.
Barded with these improvements, the Road King Classic makes it possible to measure itself with the authentic escape. The saddlebags, a little larger with the Rushmore Evo, agree to carry the essentials. The large removable windshield lets you instantly choose the caress of the air or the tranquility. Also standard: cruise control, long running boards, a twin-spoke selector, 16-inch spoke rims with whitewall tires, and heavy Rican metal throughout. Now take a look at this bike again: you don’t feel like showing it every state in the West ?
