Harley-Davidson Bronx
Off for the Streetfighter from Harley?
Harley-Davidson ventured into completely new terrain and presented the Streetfighter Bronx at EICMA 2019, which had nothing to do with the well-known Harley cruisers and choppers. It doesn’t seem to be coming.
At the beginning of 2019 Harley-Davidson rolled out its future roadmap, which provided for expansion into completely new segments in order to be able to win new and above all younger customers. With the LifeWire, the Americans are now the first large-scale manufacturer to have an electric motorcycle in their range. The next stage of the revolution was presented at EICMA 2019.
A good 115 hp were targeted
With the Bronx, the Americans pushed a real street fighter onto the streets, which should compete with the European competitors from the end of 2020. Visually, the Bronx model presented at EICMA stayed very close to the study that was shown in early 2019. For the drive, the Bronx design relied we have V2. However, it comes from the completely new Revolution Max engine family, which – you hear and be amazed – should shine with high revving, slim design and low weight. The cylinder bank angle remains at 60 degrees, but the new two-cylinder has a cooling liquid jacket. A balance shaft reduces vibrations. The V2 is installed as a supporting part.

Harley did not give exact performance data, but aimed in the Bronx from 975 cm³ displacement over 115 HP and a maximum torque of over 95 Nm. This would put the Bronx on par with a Yamaha MT-09. When it comes to add-on parts, Harley has brought various well-known manufacturers on board. Brembo developed the monoblock brake calipers for the Americans, while the Bronx tires – 120/70 R17 at the front and 180/55 R17 at the rear – come from Michelin (Scorcher Sport). The USD fork seems to be fully adjustable, the buttons on the left handlebar indicate heated grips, cruise control and a comprehensive on-board menu – which could indicate various electronic assistance and driving dynamics control systems.
Bronx future uncertain
In August 2020, however, the future prospects of the Bronx seem to deteriorate massively. The new Harley boss Jochen Zeitz had already announced that the future model timetable would be drastically reduced without naming specific models. But careful observers have noticed that the Bronx disappeared from the list of future Harley models on the official Harley website in early August. There is also nothing left to read about the Streetfighter in the press area. Harley-Davidson officially commented on this with a focus on the touring adventure segment – ie the large enduro Pan America, which has already been postponed by a year to 2021. That doesn’t necessarily mean the Bronx isn’t coming at all – but it definitely isn’t coming in 2021. So fans can still hope.
Conclusion
The traditional manufacturer Harley-Davidson is badly hit. Obviously it is difficult to make money with the classics in the model range. New customer groups can only be won with new models. However, entering new segments also entails certain risks.
