What can the new Harley tourer do?

The Harley-Davidson Softail Heritage Classic is one of eight models from the new Softail range. We tried them out on a first test drive near Barcelona.

Really comfortable: The only real touring cruiser among the Softails, the Harley-Davidson Softail Heritage Classic, proves how much better the new chassis are! Great, what the Showa fork does with the 130 millimeters of standard spring travel. And it is almost sensational how relaxed the mono suspension strut with longer suspension travel takes on hard, high ramps in Spanish cities. It really takes some bumps, filters them away. When the exclusive running boards of the Heritage scratch the asphalt, supposedly at a 40 degree incline, you have been dragged around on their outriggers for a long time. That creates more security. Harley can now build chassis! The 18.9-liter tank promises a range of at least 337 kilometers with a standard consumption of 5.6 liters – easy with cruise control.

What can the new Harley tourer do?

330 kilograms with a full tank

Criticisms? A second brake disc à la Fat Bob would not be a technical fault. Braking at the back helps a lot. Traction control wouldn’t hurt either. The 114er-V2 turns the Dunlop D 401 T over and over again. The 1868 in the Harley-Davidson Softail Heritage Classic is a little less powerful than in the bare Softails. Because of the higher air resistance or the extra weight? Hm, 330 kilograms with a full tank would be a whopping 17 kilograms less than the 2017 vintage. The best comes at the end: The way this mighty V2 crackles for hours after being parked just gets under your skin. Around 24,000 euros bring the Heritage pretty close to more sophisticated, better-equipped tourers. A huge compliment to all Softails for much better chassis than before!
