It’s called a revolution. Who could believe that it would come from this machine? A small template, now the smallest at Harley. The 750 STREET, which will also be available in 500 in India and the States, is much more shocking than it looks. It looks like a Harley, it “Rplarplotplat” like a Davidson, but it tastes like a V-Rod. Is it also a road dragster? No, quite the opposite. But like the sculptural VRSC, this machine hits where you least expect it: it’s a new type of H-D, and its engine is fleet cooled. !
Not a Sportster, nor a Dyna, nor a Softail … The Street does not belong to any of the existing families in the Harley range. What a slap in the face to the backward archaics, those who coughed when the Dyna appeared and were strangled at the birth of the V-Rod. A new family at the Milwaukee manufacturer, it only appears once per decade … No, it’s even longer.
Well, we don’t give a damn about the historical-technical side. The important thing is that this bike now becomes the access to the Harley range. It is the cheapest, the lightest, and the lowest displacement.
We discovered the world of Milwaukee in 883 cc. The passport is now in 3/4 liter, with a completely new engine. A twin of course, which is not open at 45 ° like the majority of Harley blocks, but at 60 ° like the V-Rods. This is not the only point in common. There is also liquid cooling, 4 valves per cylinder but only one ACT. Associated with a 6-speed gearbox as well as a belt transmission, the “Revolution X” engine comes in two formats (we will only know the larger one). The stroke is identical for each version (66 mm), only the bore changes. With 69 mm, we obtain a cubic capacity of 494 cm3; by pushing to 85 mm, the displacement climbs to 749 cm3. However, being the smallest HD block doesn’t mean being listless. It is announced for 57 horses at 7,500 revs, or almost the same potato as the 883. The latter keeps the advantage of the couple. The Revolution X will have to be satisfied with 60 Nm at 4000 rpm.
But why cool it with water? It doesn’t output a lot of watts, and almost all H-D twins cool off with air / metal contact. Because the Street, as its name suggests, is dedicated to strolling around town, spending time in traffic jams and hanging out at red lights. There is little other than liquid cooling that can ensure consistency of performance despite urban constraints. And then, the anti-pollution standards are not far away…
The Street has chosen a quirky engine from the history of the manufacturer, more “young” than the current production; which corresponds to its targeted clientele. Around this heart, the machine corresponds to Harley standards. A very classic double steel cradle frame, a minimalist dashboard, a duo of side shocks, a single brake disc per wheel, a raw look, leather and metal. And a strong predisposition to personalization. It offers a few small appetizers such as fork bellows, the symbolic windshield covering the headlight or the sheared cylinder head fins..
Reasonable in volume, this mini-Harley also knows how to contain its weight. The scale draws 218 kilos full made from him. That’s 37 kilos less than the older, lighter Harleys, the Sportster 883; and half of the bigger one, the CVO 1800 Limited.
Infused as it is with American chauvinism, the Street is a daughter of globalization. Designed in the States, it will however be manufactured in India. Let us qualify the point: the Streets for the Rican market will be manufactured in Kansas; the rest of the world will be supplied by machines produced near New Delhi.
////////////// RECALL CAMPAIGN //////////////
In April 2019, the Milwaukee firm detected a corrosion problem that could affect the brake caliper of its Street 750 and Street Rod 750 produced between May 19, 2015 and June 12, 2018. The American brand did not specify the number of machines affected by this recall but all registered owners have received a letter inviting them to go to a dealership for a change of the incriminated parts.
Serial numbers of affected motorcycles:
E11 * 2002/24 * 1687 * 01
E11 * 168/2013 * 00216 * 01 * 02
