The representatives of the FIM Technical Commission, the FIM Institute, Dorna (promoter of MotoGP), the MSMA (Association of constructors) and IRTA (Association of teams) met last Saturday the manufacturers of motorcycle helmets (,,, ,,,,, Suomy / Kyt) and Confindustria Ancma (National Association for motorcycle cycles and accessories) on the sidelines of the .
An "FIM helmet certification program" would have been presented there, intended to "improve the protection of the pilots at the level of the head and answer the need for a more objective evaluation of the performances of the helmets during the races", announces the FIM.
Established with the collaboration of manufacturers, this ambitious program aims to define a new test procedure that would surpass those currently in force in Europe (UN ECE 22.05, read), the United States (Snell M2015) and Japan (JIS T8133).
"Several procedures have been proposed and discussed", reports the FIM without further details, and "the group has reached an agreement for a cooperative dialogue in the future aimed at a common understanding" … Will the competition helmets be different from those sold commercially, or will the work of FIM et al. result in a single new world standard?
