For the first time, the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) has issued a motorcycle helmet with specific homologation dedicated to speed racing. The lucky winner is the Race R Pro GP "FIM Racing # 1" full face helmet from the French manufacturer Shark. Explanations.

No less than two and a half years have been necessary for the FIM to homologate according to its requirements a motorcycle helmet intended for racing on a speed circuit. This delay is linked to the complexity of this unprecedented certification, called "FIM Racing Homologated Helmet Program" (FRHP).

Launched during (!) In collaboration with the main motorcycle helmet manufacturers, this "competition helmet homologation program" aims to establish a very high official certification standard for helmets worn by riders of race.

At the time, the federal body – which already imposes the closure of the chinstrap by double D buckle – claimed to want to define a test procedure which "would surpass" those currently in force in Europe (UN ECE 22.05), in the United States (Snell M2015) and Japan (JIS T8133).

An initiative all in all logical in view of the constraints inherent in the competition: a certain Marc Marquez, for example, fell no less than 23 times (!) During the season and 27 the previous year. Imagine the damage to the noggin if his Shoei X-Spirit III helmet did not offer a solid bulwark against impacts….

The Shark helmet is the first to be able to boast of satisfying this new international homologation, after having passed "successfully all the tests provided for by the FIM Helmet FRHPhe-01 standard". It can therefore proudly display the words "FIM Racing # 1" and a unique holographic logo stamped FIM.

This full face helmet made of carbon and aramid fibers is the ultra high-end Racing model (999 euros!) From the Marseille manufacturer Shark, which also comes from. The team among others Johann Zarco and Jorge Lorenzo with this model with a very aerodynamic profile.

Other helmets from different brands (AGV, Airoh, Arai, Bell, HJC, Kabuto, Lazer, NZI, Scorpion, Shoei, Suomy or the Nolan / X-Lite group) are in the process of being approved. To be continued on MNC: stay connected !
