BMW, Ducati and Kawasaki motorcycles move to Bosch large split screen
Bosch, supplier of countless electronic equipment for motorcycles and scooters, launches a new color instrumentation of 10.25 inches (26 cm!) Whose divisible character makes it possible to simultaneously display the essential information of the two-wheeler as well as that of a telephone, including navigation directions. Presentation.
Patriotic fiber obliges, BMW is the first motorcycle manufacturer to take advantage of the latest discovery of the German manufacturer Bosch on its: a 10.25-inch color TFT matrix screen, an impressive format when the average is usually between 5 and 7 inches !

But the 26 cm – diagonal – is not the only particularity of this rectangular panel: Bosch also introduces the "mySpin" functionality, ie the possibility of dividing the screen into two distinct parts with on one side the information of use (speed, tachometer, trips, fuel, gear, etc.), on the other, content from a phone connected to this instrumentation.
Primary objective? Display on the screen of the motorcycle the route indications of an application as the bikers are now popular: a survey by Bosch after "2,600 drivers" notes that "90%" would use their smartphone to plan their trips…
This is hardly surprising given the efficiency and free use of applications such as Google Maps, Waze (which also belongs to the Alphabet group), HereWeGo or even ViaMichelin. Another advantage of this navigation by phone: no need to buy an additional GPS terminal, nor to fix it – sometimes as best as you can – on the motorcycle! This "dual display" controlled from the handlebars runs directly under the eyes of the pilot.
This screen sharing is therefore a logical consequence of the predominant place taken by connected telephones, which have almost become a full member of the body of modern humans (it would replace the hand in certain individuals under the age of 16!).
Show route, yes. Netflix, no !
MNC, on the other hand, remains more cautious about "other content" that can be transferred to the screen, especially those relating to telephony (text messages, call messages, contacts, etc.) and "partner applications" highlighted by the German group as REVER to "follow and share trips with friends"…
And why not a Netflix or Amazon Prime application to follow your favorite series between two bends or rise in lines ?! "Bosch has for many years been given the mission of making motorcycle riding above all safer, but also more comfortable and enjoyable", replies the manufacturer, who seeks to reconcile useful and pleasant.
Everyone is then free to determine their own border between information and entertainment … Remember that driving a motorbike and a scooter requires concentration, anticipation and coordination, actions that seem hardly compatible with viewing an XXL tablet. powered by her phone! Disconnecting on a motorcycle, in fact, does so much good…
This aspect is obviously not at the center of Bosch’s concerns: "the range of applications is constantly developing all over the world", on the contrary welcomes the German group, which has also won Ducati with this new screen (au 6.5 inch format) as well as Kawasaki which "will follow in 2021". Stay connected (but not necessarily on the handlebars!).
