At the Bologna Motor Show, Honda reveals the last model secrets: The Hornet 600 has been heavily revised, the CB 1300 is a real surprise.

The sparrows whistled from the roofs of the hall at the Intermot trade fair in Munich that they would come. Because although mighty naked bikes are enjoying growing popularity in Germany and Honda has been building a Brummer called the CB 1300 for years, this model was never officially offered in Germany. And now the Japanese are actually presenting a CB 1300 ?? however a completely new design.
Honda developed its own water-cooled engine with wet cylinder liners for which 116 hp and over 120 Newton meters of maximum torque are promised. To allow a small valve angle, the two camshafts are close together. In this way, the compact combustion chambers should guarantee more effective combustion. The electronic manifold injection also contributes to this. The basic features of the 36-mm throttle valve housing come from the Hornet 900, new injection valves should enable optimal atomization of the fuel and thus also ensure good efficiency, the same applies to the ignition box, whose maps are stored in a 32-bit computer.
Last but not least, the four-in-two-in-one exhaust system, made entirely of stainless steel, was designed for maximum torque. There are uncontrolled catalytic converters in the manifolds, and the CB 1300 also has a secondary air system, which is why the limit values โ€‹โ€‹of the Euro 2 emissions standard ?? according to Honda ?? “Loosely” to be undercut.
The powerful engine dominates the classic-looking double loop frame made of tubular steel, Honda promises sufficient stability with unrivaled handling. Why the wheelbase compared to the CB 1000? she didn’t make her debut ten years ago ?? shrank from 1540 millimeters to 1515. The two CB are similar in the low seating position and the huge tank, which has a volume of well over 20 liters. A plus in comfort for tall drivers: by turning the cranked handlebar mounts by 180 degrees, the handlebars can be mounted on the fork bridge 20 millimeters further forward. Other useful details: Under the seat there is a storage compartment over twelve liters, an immobilizer is part of the standard equipment.
S.o also with the new Hornet 600. And that’s a good thing. The little hornet is very popular in Europe. To keep it that way, Honda has fundamentally revised it for 2003. A new headlight should provide a better view at night, a significantly tighter adjustment of the spring elements will benefit the sporty talents of the Hornet. In the cylinder head, both the intake and exhaust ports have been redesigned to achieve a more homogeneous power output. Instead of the expected injection system, Honda continues to rely on constant pressure carburetors. What is new is that if there is no ignition current, an electromagnetic valve stops the fuel supply. This prevents damage to the newly introduced U-Kats from unburned fuel. The little Hornet also meets the Euro 2 standard. The top performance remains unaffected by the Kat? it is still nominally 95 hp. Unfortunately, Honda was silent about prices until the editorial deadline.
