New engine, more gears, more retro and HRC

Honda has extensively redesigned its pocket fun bike for the model year. The MSX 125 gets a new name, a retro-cool style update and a completely new engine. Oh yes, and there is another HRC version.

In 1963, Honda kicked off the pocket bike euphoria with the first Monkey. Models like the Dax and the Ape followed, and from 2013 also the M.SX 125 – where MSX stands for Mini Street X-treme 125.

For the 2021 model year, the Honda MSX 125 was turned inside out. It starts with the name. If the 125cc was already known internationally as Grom, it now officially bears this nickname in Germany. The MSX 125 becomes the MSX 125 Grom.

More retro design

The completely redesigned attachment parts give the MSX125 Grom a new design language. The new cladding combines the slim LED headlights and the reduced seat unit including subframe with the retro chic of the compact side panels and the tank covers. Those willing to convert are happy about the easy-to-remove cladding components. The entire panel is attached with six screws on each side. The large stud borders are part of the design concept.

Now with a five-speed transmission

The updated LC display now also has a rev counter and a gear indicator. It will also get more to do in 2021, because the Grom will be powered by a completely new single-cylinder. The new, air-cooled, Euro 5-certified engine offers the same engine power as its predecessor, with a new fifth gear. So it remains at 9.8 HP and 10.5 Nm torque as well as two-valve technology. The additional gear is intended to increase the sprinting ability and increases the Vmax from 92 to 94 km / h. The manifold and rear silencer are now made in two parts.

The chassis with the 12-inch wheels remains unchanged with typical small bike dimensions, but allows suspension, braking and handling qualities of one "normal size" Motorcycles.

For 2021 the new Honda MSX 125 Grom will be available in the colors Force Silver Metallic, Matt Gunpowder Black Metallic and Gayety Red. The old MSX costs around 3,700 euros, Honda has not yet given a price for the new Grom.

HRC-Grom for brand cup

Honda

In Japan, Honda had the new Grom upgraded by its racing department. One-make cup racing series are planned with the HRC-Grom in various Asian markets. For this purpose, the Grom was freed from its street ballast and equipped with a racing exhaust. There are also new trim parts. HRC has not yet commented on technical changes.

Conclusion

The MSX has always been pure driving pleasure. The fact that you can now stir in five courses is awesome. A sounding out of the 125 power limit should have been with the new engine.
