800 km test.
The Deauville evolved in 2006 at the line and engine level.
With tighter lines, it is closer to the brand’s CBF style,
and gains in modernity. In terms of engine, the V-Twin won
33 cm3 – from 647 to 680 cm3 -, abandons the carburetors
for injection and gains 10 horsepower as well as a gain in torque
of 1.2 mkg, enough to breathe new life into a model that
struggled in previous vintages.
Discovery
La Deauville is rewarding, very rewarding even, and
it takes a connoisseur to know that it is only a 700
cm3! With its original luggage (extended to 54 liters
now), it has everything a great. We see
almost hidden under the left suitcases, the gimbal, a guarantee of maintenance
easy. We can guess the double steel beam type frame under the fairing.
Note the windshield adjustable in height and tilt (manually).
More closely, we appreciate the overall quality up to
in details, two side pockets (including the one
enclosing the personal radio / mp3 player, lockable).
the presence of an amplifier for music (and speakers
that go with it), heated grips, even luggage
in the side cases.
In the saddle
The position is immediately natural, upright, like sitting on a
chair or more precisely an armchair, thanks to
the soft saddle. Despite a lower saddle height
in 2006, but quite relative (790 mm), the wide saddle means that the two
feet barely touch the ground for the 1.70 m pilot.
We then have before our eyes a real dashboard, traditional
and complete with from left to right: the fuel gauge,
the speedometer, the tachometer with a red zone at 8,500
turns, and the temperature thermometer. Central, digital,
a totalizer, a partial double-trip, a clock and a warning light
instantaneous consumption (in km per liters or in liters per
100 km, by a simple manipulation indicated in the manufacturer’s booklet).
Note the HISS coded key system.
Rectangular mirrors placed on the fairing
are easily adjusted. Well off-center in relation to
the bubble (they gained 5 cm in 2006), they offer an excellent
vision, regardless of speed.
Contact
The Deauville snorts, with the vibrations of the twin cylinder.
The counter resets.
Clutch, start … The gearbox is soft. From the very first
kilometers / hour, the apparent weight of the motorcycle is forgotten,
and low-speed maneuvering is done with ease,
and this much easier than the size suggests
at first sight. The Deauville weighs ‘only 265 kilos
all full made (and 10 kilos more with all accessories), a
featherweight in the GT category, compared to 320 kilos
of a real Pan. The feet lie flat on the wide
toe clips and knees slightly apart
are placed around the tank.
City
La Deauville evolves naturally in the city and we forget
quickly its size to squeeze through mouse holes.
Only large mirrors can be scary not to pass
from time to time while it goes, always.
The starts are discreet or on the contrary particularly
fast, depending on the rpm, and can easily
fly away the permit anyway. However, she does not like
not the sub-speeds and bangs under 2,500 rpm. She will prefer
evolve above 4,000 rpm with excess torque above
from 7,000 rpm.
The saddle and the suspensions make you forget the worst irregularities
of the roadway, providing a perfect mix of comfort, absorption
holes and bumps and stability.
The high screen perfectly protects the bust and head,
so much so that not a breath of wind passes, even in
summer. On the other hand, the heat of the engine rises well to the level
thighs: ideal in winter.
Highway
La Deauville voluntarily enters the motorway. In
fifth, the tachometer needle peaks at 7,500 rpm
with a speed of 180 km / h (in Germany). At this rate, the bubble protects
perfectly the bust and the head, without causing particular eddies
on the helmet. By tucking your head into your shoulders, your head
is completely protected and the volume in
the headset decreases by several decibels, very pleasant.
At this rate too, consumption is blithely exceeding
the 9 liters to the cent and incites in any case to return
the hand.
The Deauville turns out to be stable and relatively insensitive
upwind, despite its bulk. We hardly perceive
high speed and in the presence of strong wind, a slight float
in the handlebars, without having to tighten the handlebars.
It then finds a more leisurely cruising rhythm, at
around 6,000 rpm and 140 km / h.
Departmental
La Deauville is in its element on the departmental,
able to wind quietly in fifth or to chain
the virolos in a more dynamic way on the intermediate reports.
On national, it will require to enter one or two reports
to pass quickly, remembering that it
still has only 65 horsepower with a higher weight
to any roadster, even faired.
The original tire fitting – BT 020- grips perfectly and
gives confidence.
Comfort
The long and generous saddle is comfortable
like an armchair, comfort that does not change regardless of the number of
kilometers. In this displacement category, no
no other motorcycle offers such comfort, whether for the rider or
the passenger.
La Deauville was clearly designed for the duo
and travel, due to the volume of luggage to take away which can
still be increased by a bag on the tank
particularly flat.
Braking
With ABS, braking is reassuring,
in all circumstances. The rear brake turns out
an honest retarder. The front brake – two calipers 3
pistons – offers bite, without generating diving
during intensive braking. The Deauville stops well and
fast, responding immediately to braking requests.
Everything is particularly reassuring.
Convenient
Luggage storage – side cases and top boxes – is
of quality and well finished. We appreciate the details
foam type at the bottom of the top case or internal strap (suitcase type)
as well as the fabric panniers with flaps (105 €). If the suitcases
side panels cannot accommodate a full-face helmet (the top-case
allows), they can on the other hand accommodate a long object up close
60 cm thanks to a tunnel connecting the two side cases.
The whole accommodates 54 liters, to which are added the possibilities
top-case (45 liters, optional).
Do not forget the heated grips, with adjustment
intensity.
The hi-fi installation is the icing on the cake …
same as the plug connected to the battery for electricity.
The metal tank allows you to hang a magnetic bag
no problem.
The Deauville crutch and kickstand easily
on the power plant, especially in view of its 239 kilos (dry), but on
flat terrain. On less level ground, the exercise requires a little
more grip. We regret here the additional 9 kilos by
compared to the previous model.
It is possible to place the anti-theft device between a fork bar
and a wheel stick.
Consumption
The Deauville turns out to be a real camel … even allowing
consumption of 4 liters per hundred at stabilized speed.
And with a tank of almost 20 liters (19.7 liters),
this would give it a range of 400 km. Conditional, because outside
legal speeds, and in particular at the cleat, consumption is climbing
until flirting with 10 liters per hundred. What to restrain
ardor.
Average of the test: 4.9 liters / 100.
Conclusion
The Deauville is the only real GT of this displacement on the market.
It thus offers all the advantages of a GT (protection, comfort,
duo, reduced consumption, possibility of long travel
course) without having the usual disadvantages of large engines
(weight, reduced maneuverability at low speed, fuel consumption
important).
It will delight those who travel a lot as a duo and who prefer
the pleasure of discovering landscapes with rough performance
a powerful engine. At 8,700 euros (9,300 € with ABS,
to be compared to the 16,900 € of a Pan European), the Deauville
represents a big first step in the touring category
for almost a very small price.
Strong points
- Duo and comfort
- Finish and quality
- Luggage and accessories
- Protection
Weak points
- Motor sensations
