With the arrival of the CB 125 R, the CBF is all the more playing its role of urban utility-oriented. Less fashionable, more accessible and everyday, this machine has remained trendy with a facelift at mid-career. It was in 2015, when the most accessible Honda changed its face and downright personality….
Finished the nice little road; the CBF becomes a little roadster a shameless chouïa. Its physique is modeled on that of Honda’s mid-capacity roadster, the CBF 650. It therefore gets rid of its half-fairing in favor of a tempting fork crown and small side scoops. The CBF 125 sports a most sympathetic freshness, and would almost make pass its predecessor for a relic.
Disappearance of the engine guard, more compact pot, one piece saddle, revised passenger handle and modified fuel tank help to make the bike visually more compact and responsive. The little Honda roadster has a new steel frame, 18-inch wheels (17 on the old version) and a much nicer dashboard..
In 2017, the CBF 125 gained an engaged gear indicator, placed in the middle of the dashboard. Braking is reinforced by a combined system.
The engine adapted to Euro4. In 2015, it had already undergone some modifications. The cylinder head has been revised and a balance shaft added to reduce vibration. No frills, this air-cooled 2-valve single-cylinder loses a bit of power and torque. But when you whip a dozen canassons, it’s not a half-horse that will make the difference. Where Honda calms everyone down, it’s on the autonomy side. With an announced consumption of the lowest and its 13-liter tank, the CBF 125 claims to be able to accomplish 600 km with a full tank. A camel !
What does not change is the attractive power of the price. With a simple technical side (steel frame, thin 31 mm fork, “sufficient” braking system, primary engine) and manufacture in an emerging country, the Honda CBF 125 continues to show a price level with daisies. It looks a little pale next to the CB 125 R, but it is 40% cheaper. A shocking argument when function takes precedence over appearance.
