From the supermoto to the enduro

Reverse transformation: The mountain cat turns into a dirt sparrow, or rather the supermoto into an enduro, in order to rummage through the last snow of the season with relish. PS put the Touratech Husqvarna on black ice.

Converting enduros to supermotos is not really new, but going backwards this way? There is something inspiringly irrational about the idea. And the thoughts became serious. Reason one: only dead fish go with the flow. Reason two: Performance is not a sin and you can never have enough of it off the beaten track. Reason three: Series manufacturers use modular systems for their models, for example BMW in the F 800 series, from which the Husqvarna Nuda 900 R, which has been converted here, is also derived.
Mighty dull thunderstorm
So why should a mutation from a road to an off-road burner not be feasible? After all, under the expert Italian hand, the Nuda has been transformed from the staid BMW F 800 R into a stylish and spirited piece of jewelry.
The conversion of the Nuda R provokes with its unusual lines even when it is stationary. She stands there, excited like a mountain cat before a mighty leap. If you unleash their temperament by pressing the starter button, a mighty, dull thunderstorm patters off. It manipulates the senses and ominously proclaims the sheer violence that lurks at the core of the Nuda. That’s very impressive.
The accessories specialist Touratech is behind this amazing project. The Black Forests didn’t create this piece for fun, but rather to rock the prologue at the legendary Erzberg race in Austria. The off-road Nuda is not only visually very successful, the engine management has also been fine-tuned. This stud animal pushes 110 hp and 100 Nm and releases its hot breath unfiltered through a Remus / Phonix exhaust system that has been specially optimized in diameter. The chassis is also top class. Like a puma, this bike hovers safely over long scree passages and waves. It literally sucks into the invisible ground that is hidden under the snow and does not leave its trail even if you try to wiggle. If you cock the tap, the studs bite like claws in the cold white and hurl it back to Frau Holle.

fact
The race-proven open exhaust system releases the most glorious Puma rumble into the landscape.
It’s unbelievable how high the mechanical grip of this beast is. The Touratech suspension “extreme” damper does an exemplary job and, thanks to its two-piston technology and high progression, prevents the “bottom out” on hard hits. And the successful weight distribution from the front 93 kg and rear 103 kg with a full tank allows endless, fat wheelies even in the snow. When braking, however, you can feel the heavy weight. But the large 300 mm brake disc at the front takes it easy, as does the fat 50 mm Marzocchi fork with Ohlins TTX cartridge. It masters small and large waves with ease and you can concentrate fully on turning into deep ruts.
The specially milled fork bridge with a 22 millimeter offset has a positive effect on the overall impression. Unfortunately, this reduces the steering angle quite a bit. Due to its suspension set-up with a lot of rebound damping, the Nuda looks sluggish, but always sublime. Bad strokes that lurk on an eroded gravel road at high speed or invisible ditches under the snow, no problem.
Other useful details, such as mousse instead of tubes in the 21 and 18-inch wheels, are indispensable for extreme applications. This also applies to the non-slip Touratech footrests or the larger and more stable footbrake lever. If things actually go wrong, crash bars on the radiator prevent expensive damage or even failures. The handbrake and clutch levers have also been upgraded to a high quality, and the reinforced engine protection plate conveys a certain passive safety.
So we have found good reasons for converting a street burner. The question still remains whether the effort is also worth it? We say yes! Because the successes of Marco Straubel and Lars Wurdemann (third and fifth place) at the Erzberg Prolog 2012 in the two-cylinder class are hardly a coincidence. It’s just a shame that the Touratech Nuda is a prototype.
