EICMA 2019

Indian presented a new variant of the FTR 1200 at EICMA 2019. The Indian FTR 1200 Rally is scheduled to hit the streets in spring 2020.

Tea I.ndian FTR 1200 has been a topic of conversation for quite some time. First, Indian showed a first prototype, which caused enthusiasm in many places. After a while, Indian presented the FTR 1200, the series model, at INTERMOT 2018. Almost a year later, the MOTORRAD editorial team then added the bike to the long-term test fleet. And now, a few weeks later, Indian is stepping up and presenting a new variant called the FTR 1200 Rally at EICMA 2019 in Milan.

Modern technology meets retro rally look

Technically, nothing really changes compared to the "normal" FTR 1200. The Indian FTR 1200 Rally is also powered by a 60-degree V2 with 1.2 liter displacement, which is said to produce 123 hp at 8,250 rpm. It is not entirely clear whether the rally is based on the basic or the S version of the FTR 1200. The S version differs from the basic FTR, among other things, through a fully adjustable chassis, traction control, three driving modes, a better TFT display and, of course, a slightly higher price. We firmly assume that the new rally will get the features of the FTR 1200 S. At least the traction control will definitely be part of the rally.

Indian

The new Indian FTR 1200 Rally has a scrambler look.

Otherwise, the new rally is particularly noticeable with its scrambler look. The tank is gray and is enhanced by a generous Indian logo. The bench is designed in brown to match. Indian has given the rally an LED headlight, a 50 millimeter higher “ProTaper” handlebar, a USB port, a short windshield and spoked wheels with aluminum rims and coarse-tread Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tires. Similar to the sister models presented last year, the rally can also be customized with a wide range of accessories. It is scheduled to hit the streets in spring 2020. In the meantime Indian has also announced a price for Germany – the rally will be available from 14,990 euros. For comparison: the current basic version costs 14,690 euros. For the S version, at least 15,990 euros are currently due.

Conclusion

Although the newly introduced Indian FTR 1200 Rally does not necessarily inspire with new technical features, the new Indian bike certainly knows how to impress. The new FTR variant is also sure to find its fans. We are excited to see what price Indian will call for the new model.
