With Randy Mamola to the Sultans of Sprint

Indian will take part in the Sultans of Sprint competition in 2019 with the IndianxWorkhorse Sprint Racer. The racer, nicknamed Appaloosa, is driven by GP legend Randy Mamola.

VThe IndianxWorkhorse Sprint Racer was presented at the first sprint race in the series as part of the custom bike show “The Reunion” in Monza, Italy.

The IndianxWorkhorse Sprint Racer was built by the Belgian Workhorse Speedshop around Brice Hennebert in around 700 hours of work. The focus was on the 100th birthday of the Indian brand, based on a Scout Bobber. Correspondingly, the racer also carries the starting number 19 on its flanks, alluding to the year Indian was founded in 1919.

First, the Scout Bobber was stripped down to the frame and engine. The original tank was shortened and made narrower. For racing use it now only holds 2.5 liters. A new hood made of hand-cut aluminum was placed over it. The driver sits – or lies – stretched out behind it on a new rear frame. The steering stub moved under the upper triple clamp of the 43er Ohlins fork, the footrest system far back into the swing arm. For more grip, an extra-long aluminum rear swing arm was made, which is supported on the frame by two Ohlins suspension struts. The steering is kept in check by an Ohlins steering damper.

With nitrous oxide injection to 130 hp

The V2 of the Scout Bobber remained mechanically untouched. Akrapovic made a special exhaust. In addition, there is a racing control unit, a power commander, a freer intake area and nitrous oxide injection. In total, the measures should result in around 130 hp. The regulations limit the power to 0.65 hp / kg. With rear-wheel drive, a conventional chain replaces the standard toothed belt. A quickshifter is designed to minimize time lost when changing gears.

To bring the Appaloosa to a standstill, a Beringer brake caliper bites into a 230 double disc system on the rear wheel. What makes the IndianxWorkhorse Sprint Racer really spectacular is the shape of the full fairing, which is reminiscent of a fish with its large, round radiator mouth and side air deflectors.
