WSBK 2019 statements in Misano: Kawasaki team of Suzuka 8H on the podium !
What are the results of the three World Superbike races contested this weekend on the Misano circuit in Italy? Site does the accounts and translates the statements of the pilots who shone – or not – during this seventh meeting in 2019. Do you speak French ?
Every day after the race (three races per weekend in World Superbike from now on!), The Moto Journal du Net establishes the riders’ classification. For the third consecutive event (after Imola and Assen), Jonathan Rea has seriously reduced the gap between him and Alvaro Bautista in the championship !
- Interview with Jules Cluzel :
Winner of the first round under the deluge on Saturday and the second under a bright sun on Sunday (75 successes on the clock), the four-time Superbike world champion missed the boat only in the Superpole race (5th despite a roll under his Kawasaki)! The ruthless "JR" leaves Misano with the best score: 55 points out of 62 made available.
Unbeatable in the dry and over ten laps on Sunday morning, Alvaro Bautista was less comfortable in the rain the day before (3rd) and was too confident in the afternoon at the controls of his Ducati (14th after a fall) … The "beginner" has finally registered "only" 30 points and leads only 16 points in the provisional. Ole !
Very skilful in the almost apocalyptic conditions on Saturday (first podium with BMW!), Unlucky then courageous in the dry the next day (technical problem in the morning and 6th in the afternoon), Tom Sykes beat his nice score from Jerez and pocketed Misano as many points as Bautista "himself"! The n ° 66 thus gets closer to the 6th place overall…
For the second time in three events, Toprak Razgatlioglu is on the "MNC podium" with 26 points scored in Misano. Falling into the rain on Saturday, Sofuoglu’s foal caught up on Sunday morning (4th behind Haslam) and dropped the clock in the afternoon (best time in the race) to finish in Rea’s wheel. Stronger and stronger, this Turkish !
As in Imola, the two compatriots and accomplices Leon Haslam and Alex Lowes complete this second Italian Top 5 with 23 and 22 points respectively. The No.91 Kawasaki and No.22 Yamaha both sank in the wet on Saturday but shone in the dry on Sunday. Advantage (of one point) to the 2018 BSB champion for being on the podium twice !
Gas, Baz !
Finally, our representative Loris Baz illuminated the first race disputed in delicate conditions for all … but delectable for him! "Bazooka" struck a big blow by finishing best Yamaha and "independent" rider on Saturday (4th in the heat)! He still has to progress in the dry (twice 12th). Gas, Baz !
Site publishes reactions – in French! – of the Top 5 in Misano on Sunday evening. MNC also gives voice to the best – or less worst? – representatives of each brand of motorcycles, without forgetting our international Loris! Do you speak French ?
Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki n ° 1), 1st with 55 pts
“It was a good thing for us to win two races at Misano, especially the main two. Unfortunately, in the Superpole race today I made a big mistake on turn 10, when I lost the ‘before. I still left to finish 5th, which was very important for the weekend. The second round today was difficult because the temperature was high. I was not sure of the pace. J Felt like it was slow, but I didn’t want to go any faster. I saw Alvaro crash very early and the conditions were very difficult, especially for the front tire. The rear just didn’t hook and He was not moving forward, he was skating so much … But we won, that was the main thing. It was a really good day for Kawasaki because we put three bikes on the podium of the second round. Elsewhere, the Suzuka 8 Hours team! Donington is the next step, we will go to each track with an open mind. rt ".
Alvaro Bautista (Ducati n ° 19), 2nd with 30 pts
"I’m happy but at the same time very angry with myself about the results of the two races today. The Superpole race went well because we were in great shape. After a good start I got everything I immediately took the lead and I set the pace until the checkered flag. In the second round, it was very hot and the track did not have as much grip. On the second lap, I did nothing. ‘strange at turn 4, but I lost the front and fell. It’s a shame because our potential was obviously to fight for the win. Perhaps the mistake was that I was overconfident after the win that morning, but anyway you have to look at the data because I made two similar mistakes in the last two races, and that’s not good. We have to understand. why, so as not to repeat the same mistakes and not lose more points ".
Tom Sykes (BMW n ° 66), 2nd with 30 pts
“We were a bit unlucky. Honestly, I feel like we had three podiums within our grasp. We were third in the Superpole race until the last lap, when we encountered a problem that allowed Leon Haslam to get closer. We unfortunately had to give up. What was also unfortunate was that it meant that I had to start the second "big" race from the fourth row, which cost me a little time in the first laps. The whole BMW Motorrad WorldSBK team did a good job. We rode our second bike (yes, yes, the WSBK regulations allow it, editor’s note) with some performance compromises and we still had a good pace . I have a feeling that if we had started from the front row we could have stepped away, kept our pace and got on the podium, so it’s a bit of a shame but we still got on the podium, we finished second this weekend (Saturday in the rain e, Editor‘s note) with the all-new BMW S1000RR, we are demonstrating its potential. Even in the last race we were very consistent. We will rely on that for the future ".
Toprak Razgatliolu (Kawasaki n ° 54), 3rd with 26 pts
"For me, the second round was the best. During the Superpole race, I didn’t have any fun because I had a big crash the day before and we tried the second bike. I didn’t have a good one. feeling because the rear was slipping too much. I knew that the second heat was important because I started from the fourth position and that I had to stay in the leading group. In the race, I followed Johnny (Rea) and Leon (Haslam ) after the fall of Bautista and I thought the bike was good, especially on the brakes. I attacked every lap and widened a gap, but saw Johnny come back. On the last lap, I tried to take back the lead, but it was not easy. After my crash yesterday, this podium went to my team who did a good job. We tried a little set-up change that worked. Afterwards. Imola and Jerez, we are back on the podium! ".
Leon Haslam (Kawasaki n ° 91), 4th with 23 pts
“To finish third in the Superpole race today, I had to stay on the bike, close the gap on Tom Sykes, then manage to pass him on the last lap. This afternoon I struggled from the first lap I didn’t feel much about the front end, but I think everyone was in this situation. When Johnny (Rea) and Toprak (Razgatlioglu) passed I felt that I could have attacked to stay with them, but I had already taken too many risks and had to run my own race. Alex (Lowes) was then behind me and I didn’t want to give up the podium. a bit beaten at the end. We’ve made good progress since testing in Jerez, but we’re still finding a few things. ".
Alex Lowes (Yamaha n ° 22), 5th with 22 pts
"The weekend has been pretty good overall, it was only spoiled by the mistake I made yesterday when trying to win the first round. I was surprised by more puddles, which was a little unexpected at the time, but I will learn from it. The morning went well and I expected to be stronger this afternoon, but we had a little trouble accelerate as the temperature increased and grip decreased. We had made a few changes to the bike compared to Friday, but the deteriorating track conditions made their assessment difficult. It was difficult for everyone today . I tried to overtake Haslam a few times, but I didn’t feel comfortable with the front and couldn’t validate my passes, so I had to settle for fourth place. two days of testing at Suzuka, we will go to Donington, my national track: I can’t wait to be there! "
Loris Baz (Yamaha n ° 76), 8th with 17 pts
“Overall it was a good weekend. I would have liked to have done better on Sunday, but we are still in a dry learning phase with this bike. We are trying to understand its reactions depending on the settings we make. The day was not easy for everyone, the grip changed a lot and many people started to fault. I had a good warm-up and I expected to complete a better Superpole race. I immediately suffered from the lack of grip and I was scared in the first lap with nearly 75 ° of angle (telemetry in support, Editor’s note!). I nevertheless managed to finish 12th, just behind Jordi Torres ".
“Ahead of the second run, we made some adjustments to try to have a better feeling with the front. I was more comfortable, but we still had no grip at the back, I was skating. with each acceleration. I fought however while being consistent, but we did not manage to do better than 12th. I tried to pass Markus Reiterberger, in vain. It was a weekend of learning, we We still need some driving, but we still have a few points in the process. Our fourth place is a source of motivation for the whole team. We will continue in that direction at Donington and try to improve as much as possible until the truce. It will then be a matter of getting back to work this summer during practice to tackle the second part of the season as best as possible. A big thank you to the whole team and all the staff! "
Yuki Takahashi (Honda n ° 72), 15th with 8 pts
“We got off to a good start in the Superpole race, and the decision to use the soft Pirelli tire was the right decision as it worked well, allowing us to turn fairly steadily until the end. We also changed something at the end. set-up level, to find more grip, and I think we saw a little improvement. We continued in that same direction for the second round, adjusting the bike’s settings a bit, and I was happy with it. my feelings. We know this is not enough yet, of course, but we have worked very hard and I hope this work will be useful in the future. I also want to apologize to the team for the fall in the second heat because I made a mistake on the brakes. I thank everyone for their support and their hard work this weekend ".
