After the thunderclap of Suzuki with its 1300 GSX-R and its 340 meters, Kawasaki presented with prudence and discretion its overpowered ZX-12R. In full, the bike delivers no less than 180 hp and rubs near 300 km / h chrono. But the Greens didn’t just make an engine packed with horsepower. The 12R’s chassis surprises in more than one way. Unlike 90% of sports cars on the market, there is no double perimeter aluminum spar frame, but a monocoque chassis which also acts as an air box. The tank is just a cover – much of the real one is under the saddle. With this type of architecture, Kawa wanted to obtain a machine that was very stable at high speed but also short enough for good agility. From a stability point of view, nothing to say except that it’s flawless. To bring along, the ZX-12R is not so commendable. Less lively than the competition and physical in the sequences, the big Ninja requires grip. It doesn’t give itself like that, you have to deserve it. Conversely, the engine deserves nothing but praise. Overpowering, fantastically torquey and very full (except in the French version), it’s a treat! Developed in collaboration with the Kawasaki aeronautical department, the fairing provides good protection, and 2 details torment the eye: the small fins on the sides (very cool) and the forced air intake system (in the shape of a scoop). -crumbs, less cool). Like the hayabusa, the ZX-12R is not a circuit beast.
In the end, a motorcycle packed with technology that requires physical investment to be driven at a good pace.
