With the latest ZX-10 Rs, GSX-Rs, R1, CBR Fireblade, ZZR 1400 and Hayabusa 1340, it was believed that the sports bike had entrenched itself in the realm of superpower and out of control. With machines oscillating between 170 and 200 horsepower, who would have bet that a manufacturer would release a model at the antipodes of these frightening references?. Would the return of the little sportswoman accessible to all be done through the door of the 2 and a half? Kawasaki seems to believe it and shows it to us with this amazing Ninja 250 R.
All new, the Ninja 250 surprises more by its displacement than by its aesthetics. Elegant, certainly, respecting the traditional sports fairing of the old era (when it was not openwork at the extreme as now), this little sportswoman appears familiar, her gaze evoking a strong impression of “dejà vu”. But where? Oh yes ; one would swear the fork crown of the 650 ER-6 F. Only the angular style mirrors distinguish it. The fairing sides and rim designs remind us somewhat of the ZX-10 R, while the styling of the Z 1000/750 seems to have drawn the rear and its double-stage saddle. Its style does not revolutionize but the idea of a small sports car with low displacement brings back fond memories. Who remembers the 250 KR1-S and the ZXR 400 ?
With 249 cm3, the Kawa’s twin-cylinder is unlikely to overwhelm you. If it may seem fair in cubage for a sports bike, it will however represent a weight advantage over the Honda CBR 125 R and new Yamaha YZF-R 125.
Far from the exclusivity of its big sisters 10 R and 6 RR, the 250 R will play the card of accessibility, pleasure and comfort. The raised half-handlebars, the low saddle height and the announced smoothness of the controls are intended for the greatest number while presaging a welcome driving pleasure..
And this 2.5 engine, where does it come from? The Americans could tell us more, this model already existing at home for some time. It is a twin with liquid cooling and double ACT, planned strong and reliable, with a docile behavior at low and mid revs, and especially of the gniak at high revs. 30 horses will be enough to have fun, to be accessible to young people allowed, to have fun with the CBR and YZF-R (2 times less powerful) … But it will be frankly fair if we want to start to get away from it all a bit sportingly. Let’s not forget that here, you have to rely more on the plumage than on the ramage..
