We grope, we wonder, we hesitate, we gauge, and when we have just had the license, we often come back to a final hesitation: Z 650 or MT-07? And not necessarily when you’re a new biker. If these two roadsters spend their years appearing in the top 5 sales, it is because they manage to cast a wide net.

For 2020, the Z average offers a few changes to try to catch up with the Yamaha on the altar of sales. Sometimes, everything depends on the motor character or the fun of the chassis; at the bend, a little more is enough to capsize the scales. Well, the Z 650 grants itself small nice bonuses to retain the potential partner.

No fuss, let’s take it easy on the touch-ups. They mainly concern the face, still guided by the Sugomi ideology with the impregnation of the new identity of the Kawa roadsters. A movement initiated by the Z 400, giving the 650 a more poisonous approach. Operation seduction takes place there; because then, these are points of detail. Re-cut sidewalls, redesigned radiator scoops, a few black painted casings and trim parts and a new nose screen subtly characterize the redesigns..

For the chassis, things will go quickly because nothing has changed. The tubular steel frame, suspensions, wheels, brakes, it’s all the same and taken from the previous model. The areas where Kawasaki has worked are different. First, improve contact with the ground by fitting Dunlop Roadsport 2 tires. Second, improve passenger comfort by giving more consistency to the seat. The saddle of the second level is thicker in the center of 5 mm, 10 mm on the sides.
Third, review the engine a bit. A few touch-ups on the intake and exhaust side make it possible to make its smells cleaner and suitable for passing Euro 5; without affecting the power and allowing more torque at mid-range. On the other hand, the maxi loses a little, of 0.2 mkg.

Kawasaki Z 650 2020 Where the Z 650 intends to play a good card, it is on the high-tech side. Everyone …. a lot of people are online now. Check out the liquid crystal pad and welcome to 4.3 inch TFT instrumentation. We know it, it’s the same 10.9 cm color window also installed on the Ninja 650. The display is frankly nicer than on the old Z and offers more possibilities. Including Bluetooth connectivity to enjoy the Rideology app. With it installed on the smartphone, you can adjust certain instrumentation parameters, have information on maintenance, GPS tracking of your route, be alerted to a call, an SMS or an email directly on the dashboard, etc … If the black background does not suit you, you can invert it with a more expressive white.

Let’s not forget to mention the new lighting entrusted to LEDs before letting everyone get impatient with starting their twin. Its 68 horses love revivals, mid-range players, while the featherweight of 188 kilos will be intoxicated by the joy of this machine as fun as it is easy. The chassis renews without confidence in simple elements but homogeneous and calibrated just for the machine. The tubular steel frame holds a standard 41mm fork as well as an adjustable preload damper. Two 300mm brake discs and dual piston calipers are required for braking. The face-to-face with the Yamaha MT-07 promises to be even hotter. Faith of Z, being an entry-level roadster is nothing short of low end.

P.S.: For its launch, the Z 650 benefits from an introductory price of 7,099 euros.
