Kawasaki ZRX 1200 R 2003

This version of the ZRX could almost have been called “Eddie Lawson Replica”, the decoration being in the colors of the famous pilot. It differs from other versions by its strange fork crown, emerges from another time. Confusing, yet exhilarating charm. We will say what we want, but a good big old-fashioned mill, it sends you these sensations! The ZRX follows this philosophy. It even offers a little more by inflating its engine. The block borrowed from the ZZR 1100 grows by 112 cm3, the wheelbase is lengthened, and the big roadster is now available in 3 versions: Naked, R presented here, and S with an imposing and protective half-fairing. The ZRX is not a small motorcycle. Its size imposes as much as its engine presages it. The ’80s Superbike type split swingarm is superb, and must handle assaults over 10 mkg. No stepladder to get on the saddle but a bit of restraint when it comes to maneuvering this machine. Who is easy to handle and complacent in town. Beware of the right grip. It acts on a barrel of powder. The big 4-cylinder overflows with vigor. The sensations are there at the slightest request. A concentrate of character and muscle. A huge dose of reach, a big ladle of rage, and you have a terribly endearing Kawa cocktail. The cycle part is quite poorly satisfied with this force when the pace increases sportily.

Not particularly light, the machine is physical to enter in the turn. As long as the tarmac is of good quality, the handling is first class; it spoils quickly when the DDE has forgotten certain portions. We must then take out the tools to adjust the suspensions (they are everywhere). Finding the ideal balance between comfort and rigorous driving is a Chinese puzzle. We will have more tendency to roll up to take advantage of the inexhaustible breath of the big boiler. The six-piston calipers are remarkably efficient, as is the quality of finish. When traveling, the passenger will not be the best off; the saddle is comfortable, but the footrests are way too high. The driver is better groomed with a roadster position slightly forward but not binding. In version S, the protection is very correct. This does not make it a companion of choice for long journeys: the autonomy is just right, and the vibrations at stabilized speed tire out in the long run. It is aimed more at experienced users, who like big, torquey and “hairy” roadsters..
