Kawasaki seems to be following its own path to improve its fat sports car. The competition is intractable: more horses, more radicalism and less kilos. The Greens don’t quite agree. By changing the century, the Ninja is improved. More agile thanks to a new geometry of the front axle, it gains a new shock absorber, a new reinforced frame with removable rear buckle and improves its mechanics. The carbs, cylinder block and intake ducts are also new while power exceeds 140 hp in full.
Although officiating in the same category as the R1 and the 900 CBR, the Kawasaki has a smaller size. The tank is wide and the whole bike lacks a bit of finesse compared to its rival Yamaha. However, it is a beautiful motorcycle, confusing even with its facies of beetle which highlights a gaping mouth. With its half-handlebars apart and above all quite raised, it does not force the rider to break in 2 on the machine. The bust is not in free fall on the front axle, the wrists suffer little, the protection is rather not bad … it is in fact the most comfortable of hypersports.
The Bengine loc is not to be outdone. Well filled and rumbling with a striking voice, the boiler is one of the most expressive of the production in the low and mid-range. And like all good Kawa mechanics, the rage he shows in the towers is thrilling. Do not rely too much on the version with 100 nags. It’s compulsory in France, isn’t it! Although powerful, this mill can not however compete with the block of the R1. It is especially on track that we will notice the difference … accentuated by the chassis. The fork struggles to withstand high stress and stability can be compromised when pushing the bike very seriously. On the road, the 9R does not lack agility and lends itself easily to attack. If the road deteriorates, quickly calm down: the machine is as happy as a fish on the sand..
Generous in engine sensations, pleasant on the road, accepting (it is relative) the duet and a big lock in the trunk, not torturing the pilot, the ZX-9R deserves a better place on the market. It is really only on the circuit that it marks time against more sharper but much less versatile competitors..
