Together with Vectran and Gore, Klim has developed a new textile fabric that has the highest protection classification for motorcycle clothing CE-AAA. The material should be breathable and at the same time lighter than leather and at least as abrasion-resistant.

With the new Badlands Pro A3 jacket and pants, Klim presents the world’s first CE AAA-certified textile motorcycle clothing with a Goretex membrane. The company, based in Idaho, USA, has created a material mix that brings textile clothing to the high abrasion resistance and impact protection of leather clothing and so that CE-AAA level achieved. To combine the AAA rating with a highly effective climate membrane, the Klim team worked with Goretex and Vectran on the development of a new material. The Vectran fibers are made from liquid crystal polymers and have been used in the landing of Mars rovers, sailcloths, bowstrings, medical devices and other applications. And now for the first time in motorcycle clothing. The Vectran fiber fabric in the Badlands Pro A3 consists of this new super fiber and high-strength, twisted Cordura nylon, which stands for high abrasion protection and cut resistance.

If you compare the main material of the Badlands Pro with the new fabric of the Badland Pro A3, the result is an increase in strength of 17 percent and a weight reduction of 10 percent. Goretex contributes a three-layer laminate that is supposed to guarantee waterproofness and breathability. In addition, the areas on the jacket and trousers that are relevant for falls are reinforced with so-called Superfabric overlays. This textile mix already exceeds the requirements of the AAA classification, but is too stiff for large-area use as clothing material.

An adjustable ventilation system with 12 openings in the jacket and four in the pants provides fresh air in the thread, supported by the air-permeable D3O Aero Pro protectors on the elbows, shoulders and back, knees, hips and tailbone. Klim currently only offers the new Badlands Pro A3 jacket and pants in limited numbers. The prices for the jacket start at 1,640 euros, the trousers start at 990 euros.

Conclusion
