Start of the season, new clothes are needed. They should be stylish and functional and, most importantly, not cost a fortune. Finally, there has to be money left for the latte macchiato at the motorcycle meeting place. Current textile suits of the lower middle class can easily meet these demands.

Wherever red wine is served for lunch, toddlers still play late at night on the plaza and five of them are more often anyway, a Rossi fan shirt in combination with cool jeans can be considered motorcycle-compatible clothing. Quite different here on land: waterproof textile suits equipped with tested protectors are very popular because of their versatility
Motorcycle clothing should protect against the elements and injuries.
Top products sometimes cost well over 1000 euros? Not everyone can and will not afford that. It is easier to get hold of inexpensive station wagons in the lower middle class. The “economy clothing” is often equipped with less known climate membranes and upper materials. But even without the reputation of Gore-Tex, Cordura and the like, cheap doesn’t have to be bad, as the test of eight current textile suits for 350 euros shows. Ironically, the cheapest station wagon from 290 euros Bering got top marks and thus the test victory. Very gratifying: There is no real loser among the other suits either, because they are all ?? even if one or the other piece of clothing is only conditional? recommendable. Thanks to the removable thermal lining, the suits can be used almost all year round, and the features and workmanship (each ten percent of the overall rating) are impressive.
The majority of the tested products convinced with a good fit? also
due to width adjustments in the relevant areas. Accordingly, even at 180 km / h on a naked bike, they hardly showed any tendency to flutter. In this discipline, the price hits are in no way inferior to more expensive products. The important evaluation criterion “wearing comfort” (30 percent of the final result) includes not only the cut (neck, arm and leg ends, jacket / pants connection) but also the practical values determined in different driving dynamic seating positions. For example, the products from BF and Louis Not noticeable when stationary, but turned out to be uncomfortable during the test drive. In addition, attention was paid to the accessibility and functionality of pockets in all suits.
The two criteria “wetness test” and “safety” each contributed a quarter to the overall rating. After all, the station wagons are advertised as waterproof, and a rain-soaked jacket or pants cools the driver down quickly and forces them to take a break. Safety risks due to inadequate protectors are not acceptable even with inexpensive station wagons. In these two points, the 350 euro offers allow themselves the greatest weaknesses. For example, the Hein Combi, which is exemplary in terms of safety and equipped with a CE back protector
Gericke. She gambled away the test victory with extensive water ingress in the left hip and rib area. At least in the simulated heavy thunderstorm rain, the Sheltex membrane could not convince. In the class processed and also waterproof Buse (Reissa and Techpore membranes) fall, however
Elbow protectors through the shock absorption test, and the CE shoulder pads that are too small cloud the result. It should be noted, however, that Buse protectors can be retrofitted on elbows and shoulders from another manufacturer for 13.90 euros per pair.
The design did not play a role in the assessment. Although the manufacturers offer enough color variants to choose from and suits like the BF or Buse in front of the ice cream parlor really look good, buyers mostly opt for a combination of dark and light black. A German peculiarity that is hardly understood where red wine is served for lunch.

Wetness and protector test

For the wetness test, a tester in a motorcycle-specific seating position was given ten
Minutes exposed to a jet of water comparable to a heavy thunderstorm, which hit the front of the upper body and legs. The wind that rains heavily at high speed on the autobahn
lashes against motorcycle clothing, the testers simulated using appropriately high jet pressure.
Dry undergarments were used for every textile combination, in this way any leaks could be precisely identified. Points were deducted depending on the severity and time of the water ingress.
The shock absorption test of the protectors was carried out by MOTORRAD in cooperation with the company Sas-Tec in Markgroningen based on the CE standard. A test body falls from a height of one meter onto three different zones of the protector. In order to meet the CE standard, the measured residual force must not exceed 35 kilo-newtons (kN) as an average value. If the value of a single blow is over 50 kN, the protector has failed. In addition, the protector seat and cut (for example, recesses that are intended to allow freedom of movement, but may create a security gap) were taken into account in a practical manner. Protectors that did not meet the specified CE standard during the measurement, just like non-certified protectors, received no points. There were also deductions, if about one
Men’s station wagon was equipped with smaller women’s and children’s protectors (BF, Buse, Germot, Louis). However, positive factors flowed into the rating
Pockets for retrofitting CE protectors.
