KTM 990 Superduke R.

He fights on his 1000 MV. Quite a lot. Leaning deeply on his stub handlebars and with a dedicated hanging-off, the MV Agusta pilot tries to sniff out the guy in front of him on the winding course of Valencia. But he sits casually upright on his covered in mysterious black KTM and just can’t be cracked. So boldly he slams into the corners, pulls away so powerfully at the exit. Only the long home straight gives the pursuer the opportunity,
the power of his four-cylinder reactor in an overtaking maneuver
to turn over. With the success that the KTM driver already has
when braking into the next bend again hangs like a terrier on the rear wheel of the MV and again at the next bend
wants to pierce inside. It’s not normal. At least not a normal super duke. What is so refreshingly diagonally and loudly shooting around the course is a heavily sharpened version.
Well, such a super duke is in itself a very exclusive pleasure. But it can be even wilder, even sharper. As with Ducati or MV Agusta, for example, the friendly KTM dealer also has a range of branded accessories ready with which the models of the oranges can be spiced up enormously. In the case of the Superduke, this means: performance up, weight down. KTM once did everything possible, donated pretty much everything the catalog had to offer for the 990 and embellished it with the abbreviation ýÿRýÿ. The refined tuning variant carries around 16 kilograms less than the series.
That takes a lot of coal. Bow and side spoi-
ler, lamp mask, mudguard, rear fairing: all made of black shimmering carbon fiber laminate. Carbon scraps decorate the footrests, protect the engine cover and beautify the tank. On request, there is even a complete fuel barrel made from the fine mesh. But the hit are the TÜV-
tested Dymag carbon fiber wheels. 35 percent weight saving. Says KTM. Insane handling. Says the pleased pilot. After all, the invigorating effect of light wheels on handling is well known. Already extremely agile in the standard trim, the black Ballermann can be angled a whole edge more jagged.
Part of the gain in handiness is also due to the shock absorber. The swing arm is supported by a racing strut from White Power. This has a tighter tuning, a harder, titanium-colored spring and a titanium nitride-coated piston rod for better response. It is also longer than the original and raises the rear for easier handling. What the
The pilot can already feel it when sitting up at the seat position that is around 30 millimeters higher. But: "Should only be used together with the racing fork", the catalog recommends.
And accordingly, a WP racing fork with sliding tubes also coated with titanium nitride guides the front wheel. The balance of front and rear is absolutely successful. Tight, sensitive, like
Made for hearty, crisp changes in lean angle and desperate braking maneuvers on the last groove. Two Akrapovic titanium silencers under the stern ensure more pressure from the engine room. The slip-on mufflers are not only neatly made and, according to KTM, 5.5 kilograms lighter than the original parts. Thanks to adapted mapping, they also ensure an exemplary performance curve, which is around five to seven hp over the series almost over the entire speed range and culminates in a proud 126 hp.
Sounds damn good. And it’s even better. The V2 hangs on the gas with a powerful voice. Spontaneous, almost snappy. He lets the KTM dance more often on the rear wheel, even in second gear, and storm up to the speed limit without a lot of fuss. Where, by the way, he fidgets in the limiter more often than planned. Because there is no lessening of the thrust heralds the end of the engine speed range and you would like to keep going at full throttle.
One should have even more power and even less weight
Bring a complete system made of titanium. And that ýÿ in contrast to the racing mufflers ýÿ with ABE. This should completely mutate the Superduke into a big bike fright. In any case, it will be a horror for the bank advisor, because the conversion is not cheap. The parts used add up to around 11,345 euros. But it doesn’t have to be the full program. abi
