In three patent drawings, KTM not only shows a major radar offensive through the entire model range, but also allows a look at the future design of the characteristic headlights from Mattighofen.

An upcoming front radar system for controlling a distance cruise control and many other possible functions has KTM already for the big enduro KTM 1290 Super Adventure in planning and use in other long-legged KTM models is therefore only logical. Erlkonig images that have already appeared show a possible installation point on the headlight in a bead between the two main headlights.

This is confirmed by the new patent drawings, which show exactly this placement and otherwise the Erlkonig comes very close to the protected drawing. This probably confirms the close proximity of the design of an upcoming new Super Adventure from KTM to the Erlkonig from November 2020.

With the slightly lower KTM street models, however, placing the radar emitter far down in the headlight is counterproductive to the area in front of the motorcycle that is covered with radar beams. Accordingly, another patent drawing shows a headlight variant in which the radar system is placed high up in the housing. In its entirety, the housing shown speaks a completely new, more compact design language than the current models. Of necessity, too, since the current variants of the radar systems are quite wide and require a lot of space in the housing.

It is also interesting that a round headlight with a supposed radar system was patented at the same time, which looks very similar to the current headlight of the Husqvarna Vitpilen and Svartpilen. After this Euro 5 from the 701 models this speaks very clearly in favor of new engines from Husqvarna.

Radar, distance cruise control, blind spot warning. Sounds like a lot of security, but also reads a bit boring. If you spin the topic further, add the upcoming networking of vehicles, then it becomes a really chic technology shoe that could greatly reduce many of the motorcycle’s safety problems.
