The 250 SX is the motocross with the best power-to-weight ratio. Its lightweight two-stroke engine achieves unmatched performance in an extremely light weight chassis; serious competition for the four-stroke.
WHEELS
At the wheels, lightweight CNC machined hubs as well as premium Excel rims and black coated spokes with lightweight aluminum nipples ensure minimal weight for maximum stability. Pirelli Scorpion MX Mid Soft 32 tires shine with perfect grip and excellent performance.
BRAKES
High-tech Brembo brakes have long been standard on KTM off-road motorcycles with lightweight wave disc brakes for optimum braking performance. For the 2014 model year, there is a new brake housing with a new compensation reservoir, a smaller piston diameter, and a new lever with optimized kinematics. Thanks to this and the optimized brake pads, the performance and dosability of the front brake have been further improved significantly..
FAIRING
The aim was to create a more ergonomic and functional fairing, so that the whole bike in every detail is in perfect harmony with the rider. The molded plastic parts of the front mudguard are a model of solidity thanks to their sophisticated structure and attachment.
SADDLE
The perfectly ergonomic 2014 model year saddle contains an improved foam core that provides greater comfort and sturdiness.
AIR BOX
The airbox design guarantees optimum protection of the air filter against dirt, and maximum airflow for increased performance. Changing the Twin Air air filter in seconds and without tools has long been standard at KTM.
TANK
All models in the SX range are equipped with a new 7.5 liter lightweight polyethylene tank; it has been modified at the level of the internal thread of the cover and the cover itself, which closes more easily and with great reliability. The four-stroke motocross features the same fuel pump system as the four-stroke enduro models, which allows the optional installation of larger tanks available in the PowerParts catalog or on the enduro models..
HANDLEBAR
All SX models are fitted with a super strong Renthal Fatbar 827 tapered handlebar, the shape of which has been adapted to the demands of motocross. The proven KTM system allows the handlebars to be fixed in four different positions. In 2014, a large black / silver Renthal Crash Pad provides the rider with additional impact protection.
GRAPHICS
A new refined graphic design with clear lines underlines the uncompromising demand of this modern off-road motorcycle.
FRAMEWORK
The modern frame design of the SX models made of lightweight, high-strength chrome-molybdenum steel profile tubes combines maximum longitudinal stiffness with optimum torsional rigidity. This not only offers good handling behavior and precise steering, but also excellent driving stability..
SWINGING ARM
The cast aluminum swingarm was designed using state-of-the-art calculation and simulation software; the design and the thickness of the walls ensure a minimum weight for an optimal robustness and a perfectly defined flex. For the 2014 model year, engineers have improved the chain guide and its attachment points on the swingarm for improved reliability and reduced weight.
SUSPENSION / AMORTIZATION
Both the rear shock absorber and the 48mm inverted fork from WP Suspension ensure optimum handling for damping and responsiveness. In the 2014 model year, the telescopic fork shines with optimized adjustment and greater impact reserves. The rebound and compression of the fork can quickly be adjusted to the needs of the rider and the track. The rear shock absorber also allows High-Speed and Low-Speed adjustment of the compression damping.
FORK TIES
High-quality CNC-milled triple trees have been standard at KTM for years. They ensure precise handling and clearly emphasize the flex characteristics and therefore the responsiveness of the telescopic fork..
MOTOR
The 2014 model year engine has been upgraded with a new Boyesen-Performance reed valve to provide better responsiveness. Carburetor tuning and ignition curve have also been adapted.
CLUTCH
The new engine of the KTM 250 SX incorporates a damped DDS (Damped Diaphragm Steel) clutch with wear-resistant steel bell which allows the use of thinner steel plates for a minimum integration width. Spring washers that provide preload reduce operating forces and leave room for the integrated hub damping. The result: more traction and a less strained gearbox. And with Brembo’s optimized hydraulically actuated clutch, the rider has it all under control from the start.
CYLINDER HEAD
The 2014 250 SX features a new cylinder head with an optimized combustion chamber. The advantage is that this leads to more efficient combustion for better responsiveness and higher torque across the entire load and rpm range. A new CDI-Box has been integrated with optimized ignition curve in order to achieve more efficient combustion for better power deployment and optimal handling.
