Exceeded promise: Kymco Myroad 700i

Up to now, Kymco scooters ran out at 500 cubic meters. The new Taiwanese flagship MyRoad 700i takes the leap into the luxury class.

Anyone who makes promises and doesn’t keep them will eventually no longer be taken seriously. All the more surprising when the promise is only a long time coming because it fulfills what it announced twice as much. Something like that is the case with the new Kymco flagship. The Taiwanese manufacturer had long withheld the MyRoad 700i large scooter in Europe, but is now sending it into the race with features that could ensure its survival among competitors such as the TMax from Yamaha, the Suzuki Burgman 650 and the newly launched BMW scooters.

The driver and passenger have plenty of space on the bench. A full-face helmet and some small items fit in the storage compartment.

In any case, the MyRoad700i is to be taken seriously not only because of its massive appearance and the haunting view from the three spotlights, which are more reminiscent of an unpleasant doorman than a comfortable sofa roller. The suspension, which can be electronically adjusted to three levels and can be set to “soft", "medium" or “hard" is provided. So far, no other scooter has offered this setting option. Components such as retractable passenger footrests, adjustable brake levers and the on-board computer, on the other hand, are almost standard. In addition, the 59 hp maxi scooter is equipped with an ABS from Bosch. The brakes as such bite and bring the MyRoad, which accelerates up to 170 km / h, to a perfect stop. The powerful two-cylinder engine with fuel injection picks up speed quickly, hangs properly on the gas and overtakes confidently.

The D

More is not possible: speedometer, tachometer, engine temperature, time, fuel level, mileage and various lights.

Vibrations are hardly noticeable, but a whistling sound is superimposed on the whirring of the engine. From 150 km / h the signal light for "Speed" lights up in the cockpit, an compulsory remnant from Asia, which in Europe is more strange than helpful.
On the other hand, it is impressive how handy the colossus is, despite its weight of almost 300 kilograms and its relatively long wheelbase, when it leans and turns. The low center of gravity and the excellent chassis ensure stability and a good road holding. But when maneuvering, the pounds are noticeable. The price of the MyRoad is quite reasonable in the competitive field. He will surely survive the natural selection among the large scooters. And if he loses an eye in the process – he still has two.
