300/400 could come from India

With the new 660 family, Aprilia is further expanding its range of models. Indian media report that the Italians also want to attack in the 300/400 cm³ class in the future.

The Piaggio subsidiary is in India AT.prilia with the Tuono 150 and the RS 150 at the start. In China, the Enduro Terra is sold as a 125, 150 and 250 cc in cooperation with Zongshen. The Italians are not represented in the class of bikes with 300 to 400 cm³ displacement, which is popular on Asian markets.

That could change in a few years, reports the Indian portal zigwheels.com. The Indian Piaggio CEO, Diego Graffi, has confirmed that Noale is already working on concepts for bikes in this displacement segment, which will then be used against competitors such as the Honda CB 300 R, TVS Apache RR 310, the BMW G 310 models and the KTM 390 variants could compete. Graffi didn’t want to say anything about technical details.

Singles in different cases

The small Aprilia models will presumably rely on a liquid-cooled four-stroke single-cylinder with a displacement somewhere between 350 and 380 cm³ coupled to a six-speed gearbox. As with the sister models, the little Aprilias will come as a half-faired Tuono and a fully-faired RS. The machines are developed and designed in Italy, but then manufactured cost-effectively in India. An export to other Asian markets is considered safe. Even an export to Europe is not excluded. The little Aprilias can be expected in two or three years.
