Harley-Davidson Sportster Flack Track

Conversion of Harley-Davidson Limoges

The French Harley dealer Limoges has put a converted Sportster on its wheels, which in the future wants to make a name for itself as a flat tracker.

Custom bikes based on Harley-Davidson have almost become part of the corporate philosophy of the traditional manufacturer from the USA. Again and again, various Harley branches from all over the world present a wide variety of conversions. Not least because of this, Harley-Davidson now holds one annually OOfficial custom bike competition in which the most successful Harley conversion is sought. Although the Sportster conversion described in this article does not take part in the competition, the result of Harley-Davidson Limoges from France does not have to hide from the participants of the custom content submitted.

From the sluggish cruiser to the crisp flat tracker

The French dealer has opted for a model from the Sportster series as the basic model. Which model variant explicitly "apart" Harley-Davidson makes no mention of Limoges. In any case, it is a model in which the 1200 V-twin engine is used. Not much is left of the original model anyway. According to the company’s own statements, the cost of the conversion was only 3,000 euros – without counting the employees’ salary for the hours worked, of course. In total, the employees are said to have put a whopping 200 hours of work into the Sportster Flat-Track.

The right duo: car and motorcycle harmonize perfectly with each other.

Apparently the Sportster Flat Track is not designed for use on public roads. The actual location is on the flat-track oval. Accordingly, the French customizers made adjustments to the chassis and the suspension elements. The tank and the exhaust system were elaborately manufactured in-house. The frame also had to be revised in some places to transform the Sportster into an off-road sports car. In general, Harley-Davidson Limoges has partly based its chassis geometry on sports enduro bikes, which can be seen in the modified swing arm, among other things.

This year probably not a start in Biarritz

For the color scheme, the French decided on a white paint with some orange and black color elements. The number 87 can also be seen in some places. Not much else is left of the original cruiser either. The Harley-Davidson Sportster Flat Track was supposed to take part in the flat-track race as part of the Wheels and Waves in Biarritz. However, due to the current situation, it is rather unlikely that the event will take place despite the corona virus. But it might work out next year with a start in the popular flat-track race in southern France.

Conclusion

The Harley-Davidson Sportster Flat-Track was designed with great attention to detail. Not much can be seen of the original bike. It’s a shame that there is a very high probability that the bike will not be able to show its potential at the event in Biarritz this year.
