Market reports - First half of 2016: fairly encouraging results for the motorcycle market - Positive ratings for the motorcycle market

Half-time is over for the French motorcycle market and the situation is rather encouraging: the 125s are holding up quite well (+ 0.8% compared to the first half of 2015) and the big cubes are progressing (+ 4.6%). Site takes stock.

Positive notes for the motorcycle market

The month of had been radiant from all points of view: the superb weather and the two working days longer than it had notably enabled the French motorcycle market to achieve a brilliant sixth month (+ 12.2%) and to sign – narrowly – a positive first half at + 0.8% (read our).

This year, the month of June "very little summer", underlines Meteo France in its own report,"was marked by many rainy passages, especially over the northern half of the country, very little sunshine and temperatures just in season"…

Not enough to motivate potential buyers of new motorcycles and scooters to go to dealerships that have remained open one day more than (22 days against 21, or + 5% in activity). In terms of "working" days, however, no favoritism: 22 last month and 22 a year ago.

June 2016: 18,220 registrations (+ 4.0%)

However, business was generally good since 18,220 motorized two-wheelers of "125 cc and more" (50 cc mopeds are not included in the MNC balance sheets) found takers in June 2016, i.e. 695 units more than in June 2015.

Remarkable element of last month: this increase of + 4.0% in motorcycle registrations comes not only from large cubes (+482 permits) but also smaller machines (+213 permits), which was no longer the case since the arrival – official, on the calendar – of spring…

The 125 cc market recorded an increase of + 3.5% over the sixth month of 2016, which is rather reassuring after the two severe drops recorded in and then in. Incidentally, this rebound allows the sector to complete the first half of the year in green (+ 0.8%) rather than red (purple on MNC).

On the side of large cubes – finally! -, the result for the month of June is in line with the: registrations of "+ 125 cc" increased by + 4.2% compared to June 2015 and + 4.6% compared to the first half of 2015.
