In April, feverish market…
Sales of two-wheelers in France continue to grow but at a slower pace (+ 2.1%). Because if the 125 are still on the rise (+ 11%), the large engines which represent a larger volume decrease by 3.2%. Review and analysis.
The whole of the French motorized two-wheeler market, which grew by 2.1% in April 2006, marked a slight hiatus but remained in the aggregate for the first four months up compared to 2005 by + 13.8%. To watch closely, therefore…
The 125 cc market continues to climb with + 11% in sales compared to April 2005 for a total of 9,074 vehicles delivered. The main locomotives are Peugeot, Aprilia, MBK and Daelim, Yamaha remaining untouchable with 19.3% market share in April (21.6% cumulative for the first four months).
On the large-engine side, the market recorded a drop in sales for the first time in six months (-3.2%). As in March (read), the most affected are Western manufacturers whose good scores do not equal last year’s records.
Market 125
Among the 125, Yamaha remains stuck in its first place. With 1,751 motorcycles and 125 scooters sold in April, the tuning forks brand is further increasing its lead over its competitors.
Sold 500 copies in April, the Xmax is still going strong but the bestseller Yamaha is only third in the top monthly sales since the Honda Varadero is just ahead of it with 557 sales. The Honda trail takes the opportunity to take third place in the cumulative best sales at the Yamaha Majesty.
Best-selling 125 in April 2006, the X8 scores big with 700 sales. The Piaggio scooter strengthens its second place in 2006 cumulative but cannot stop the erosion of the brand’s sales (-11.6%).
Honda is in the same situation as the Italian: the good results of the Varadero are not enough to compensate for the stagnation of the CBR and Lead, nor the decline of the Pantheon. The world number one is therefore struggling to keep its second place in France in 125 with 18.4% market share against 18% for Piaggio.
Suzuki recovers its fourth place this month and occupies the fifth position in the aggregate of the first four months. His Burgman, with which the Japanese realizes most of its sales (450 out of a total of 610!) -, withstands the new Peugeot Satelis scooter better than in March (read and).
The Sochaux-based manufacturer – which has just announced the sale of its 100,000th small Ludix – appears this month in fifth place among manufacturers and signs a fine increase of + 73% compared to last year.
Aprilia also maintains its good results (4.9% PDM), like its Atlantic, which sold 233 units in April..
Behind, Daelim and Kymco achieve almost the same number of sales but are in two very different situations: the sales of the first improved by 159.3% while those of the second fell by 5%…
But a Taiwanese can hide another: Sym increases its sales by 133.8% !
Large engine market
The fight between Suzuki and Yamaha continues at the top of the standings and it is the tuning fork which takes the advantage in April thanks to the excellent scores of its FZ1 (492 sales) and FJR 1300 (301). Yam nevertheless shows an 8% drop in sales compared to April 2005.
Suzuki recorded an even more significant drop and was caught up with the cumulative: 20.93% PDM against 19.85% for Yam. The GSR has almost the same number of sales as the Bandit, but neither manages to enter the top 3…
This is not the case with the two Kawasaki Z750 and ER-6 (read), which crush the competition with respectively 745 and 955 sales in April! The Greens thus posted an increase in their sales of 37.5% compared to April 2005 and do not lose sight of the third step of the podium overall, occupied by Honda.
The world number one also recorded an increase in its sales (9.4%) with the good performance of its CBF 1000 (read), eleventh of the best-selling models this month with 232 sales. On the other hand, its Hornet 600 with 381 sales seems to lose a little footing against other roadsters of medium displacement..
Ducati – despite the decrease in sales of 11% – passed Triumph, which experienced the largest drop of the month (-24.6%). English is actually "victim" of its exceptional results last year (read).
By almost equalizing its sales in 2005, Harley Davidson gained a place in 2006 cumulative. The situation is more delicate for BMW whose sales fell by 22%. The R 1200 GS is no longer in the top 15 and the RT drops slightly: will the F 800 S (read) which comes out on May 15 allow the Bavarian manufacturer to rectify the situation? To be continued…
More discreetly, Aprilia reached the top 10 at the expense of Gas Gas: the Italian delivered 181 motorcycles in April, including 90 Tuono. At the same time, Moto Guzzi sold 87 motorcycles, Buell 81 and Voxan 8…
