Market reports - Olivier Perraudin: 2012 will be a turn for the electric - Second hand EUROMOTOR

The Euromotor company notably imports the MZ, Vectrix, Adiva and PGO brands in France. Its president, Olivier Perraudin, establishes for Site the 2011 assessment of these different brands and reveals his objectives for 2012.. Interview.

Site: What do you think of the general evolution of the French motorcycle market in 2011? ?
Olivier Perraudin, President of Euromotor:
The market is experiencing an irreparable decline, mainly in 125 cc where motorcycles suffer more than scooters. The youth pool is increasingly losing interest in motorcycles. Contrary to what everyone thinks, the politician is not the only one responsible. It is also the fault of a purchasing power at half mast among young people, who also have other centers of interest. So after a way out of the crisis (for 2013?), We could give back the envy to these young people who still dream of motorcycles or scooters, but who no longer currently have the means to afford them. Let’s remain optimistic! After all to resist the crisis, young people share a flat share: why not on a motorcycle? ?!

MNC: What is the situation of the electricity market? ?
O. P.:
This market is totally incapable of taking off for two reasons: the price of the products and the poorly adapted supply. But 2012 will be a turning point: the electric Auto Lib and Renault, for example, will be major forces in moving the lines … electric !

MNC: How many registrations per brand have you identified in 2011 ?
O. P.:
Very few (barely 100 pieces), because our offer is very poorly prepared for the registration markets.

MNC: What is your assessment of your year? ?
O. P.:
He is very mixed. On the one hand we are resisting the crisis, but on the other hand our product offer has not allowed us to move our sales, on the contrary.

MNC: Immates are not everything: how would you qualify your balance sheet? ?
O. P.:
We are barely reaching financial equilibrium and we no longer earn money in the motorcycle, which is very serious for all !

MNC: What are the latest news from the MZ brand ?
O. P.:
We’re getting good news … but let’s wait and see! In June, MZ will present two new 125s. We hope to be able to deliver them in the middle of the year or, failing that, at the Cologne Motor Show which in my opinion will mark the revival of the brand. MZ has obtained loans and guarantees from the government of Saxony and will use this money wisely to restart production. In 2013, two other larger displacement motorcycles could also see the light of day: they should correspond to the new A2 license. MZ has also expanded its structure of engineers and recovers good CVs in mechanics! Finally, the results in Moto2 are constantly improving. MZ will put the cover back in 2012 and wants to reach the Top 10 !

MNC: How is your getting started with the Vectrix brand in France? ?
O. P.:
Vectrix is brand new to us! We have everything to do and the task is both exciting and important. The Vectrix offer has never been structured in France. It is now done, it remains to set up a real network and train it. Vectrix is the benchmark in electrical thanks to a very good product. Euromotor had already tried an approach in 2005 but we had not followed up, because the product was not at the top. There, with Lithium (we are abandoning Ni MH), it is a real scooter with real autonomy. B to B (intercompany trade, Editor’s note) will be our priority but the network that we will train in electricity will always be involved and will thus be able to also progress in sales to individuals .

MNC: Are you fully satisfied with the results of your best sales ?
O. P.:
No.

MNC: Which models have you been disappointed with in sales and why ?
O. P.:
The 50 cc scooters from PGO. We certainly have one of the best brands in terms of product quality with an unbeatable value for money. But buyers prefer Chinese products without thinking. In Northern Europe, PGO remains the leader in certain countries: the buyers’ mentality is much more considered, customers do not buy a price because buying a price too often means losing your investment quickly! PGO does not deserve to be relegated to 15th place in France.

MNC: What was the pleasant surprise 2011 ?
O. P.:
Unfortunately for Euromotor, no real innovations to present in 2011, so no surprises !

MNC: What was the worst ?
O. P.:
The recall of 800 scooters at Norauto that we have fully assumed, with a Chinese factory which was the only one in France to accept a recall of this scale. And by deduction, the end of our adventure with Norauto !

MNC: According to you, what was the highlight of 2011 in the world of two-wheelers? ?
O. P.:
The move to 7 hours of training 125, which somewhat deregulated sales of 125 !

MNC: The Motorcycle Show was back in Paris this year: what is your assessment and what improvements would you make to the 2013 edition ?
O. P.:
We returned there timidly with Vectrix: a lot of curious but few business for the moment…

MNC: Will you be offering new products in 2012 ?
O. P.:
Yes finally ! By dint of searching, we ended up finding. But we must constantly be on the backs of the manufacturers! At Adiva, we anticipate the arrival of 3 wheels, unfortunately not before the second half of 2012. The electric Cago 3 is also on the program. It is a unique product in the world, with two wheels at the rear, which should be particularly suitable for companies. The 3-wheel Vectrix VX1 LI and VX3 are planned. At PGO, in addition to the Bug Racer 600 with a 100% PGO and 100% "made in Taiwan" engine, we are expecting new scooters for the end of 2012. Finally, as we announced earlier, two MZ 125 are in the boxes..

MNC: In 2012, what will be your objectives ?
O. P.:
We want to refocus our efforts on the atypical brands Adiva and Vectrix, relaunch PGO, prepare for the return of MZ, and no longer spend too much energy on Chinese brands. Moreover, only the new Moving revamped and called Sportfizz will remain in the catalog..

MNC: What will be your major events in 2012 ?
O. P.:
The launch of the Bug Racer 600, our return to JPMS, the establishment of a real Vectrix network and the launch of the Adiva 3-wheel thermal and electric.

MNC: In conclusion, which maxim would best illustrate your 2011 balance sheet? ?
O. P.:
"No storm prevents the tree, in its time, from turning green".
