Market reports - The July sun benefits two-wheelers -

The two-wheeler market is still prosperous: the 125 continue to increase their number of followers in France (13,425 in July 2006, i.e. 28.3% more than in 2005) and the big cubes continue to grow. regular ascent: + 3% !

The month of July, its long national holiday weekend, its sales and its hot weather proved favorable to the motorized two-wheeler market, which posted a satisfactory + 15.4% in sales compared to July 2005 (read) . But once again, it’s the 125 that boost the statistics…

Thus the small engines achieve a month of July like their first half of the year: exceptional! With a 28.3% increase in sales last month, the 125s reach a total volume of 13,425 vehicles, 2,178 more than the big cubes..

11,067 large engines were therefore registered in July, representing an increase in sales of 3% compared to last year. And if their performance is obscured by that of the 125, over the first 7 months, the more than 125cc still approach 80,000 registrations. !

Market 125

On the chart of sales trends for the month of July, the French and non-Japanese Asian brands clearly stand out. These four brands and the "others" (+ 151.1%) allow the small displacement market to increase significantly compared to last year.

Peugeot thus achieved a new record increase of 113.7% despite a decline in the Satelis in the classification by model. The sales of Japanese or Italian brands got the better of the French 125, unless the novelty effect is fading…

The Sochaux-based manufacturer still remains 4th in cumulative sales with 6.65% of net profit, or 2.6 points better than last year! MBK is not left out with 659 registrations last month (+ 51.5% compared to July 2005) even if its best seller – the Skycruiser – is only 14th.

Behind the second French is Daelim, whose significant increase in sales of + 72.5%, however, hides a drop in pace since March. So that after Peugeot, the best increase in sales is to be put to the benefit of Sym (+ 108.6%) which continues to grab market share.

However, among the best-selling 125 cc models, only the Satelis manages to carve out a choice share (4.9%). The Xmax, X8 and Burgman have the hard plastic, especially in this period of slashed prices !

The leading brands, however, experienced a very disparate month of July … + 29.7% for the leader Yamaha, -0.7% for the second Piaggio and -12.1% for the third Honda: Yam ‘digs the gap and Piaggio catches Honda !

Now undisputed leader in small displacement (20.77% PDM since January), the brand with three tuning forks once again classifies five of its models in the Top 15 and even takes the lead thanks to its Xmax (920 sales). The X8, despite a lower price, is left behind (736 sales) but the good results of the X9 (432) and especially the Liberty (303) limit the decline of the Piaggio group.

On the other hand, the Varadero, Pantheon and CBR do not manage to stop the erosion of the PDM of the world number one. Honda recorded a 12.1% decrease in sales in July and was doubled at the same time in the cumulative of the first 7 months by the Italian giant … for 3 units !

Finally, we note once again the intrusion of the YY100 of the Chinese Jonway (read), which does not appear in the rankings below but still achieves 668 registrations (see the ").

Large engine market

Two trends were observable last month among large cubes: the Japanese are weakening and the Westerners are progressing … Rules necessarily confirmed by two exceptions.

Among the Japanese, only Kawasaki improved its sales – by 41.7% – while the first three fell in proportion to their ranking. Suzuki’s sales slipped by 0.8%, those of Yamaha fell by 7.8% and those of Honda plunged by 16%..

The French number one therefore increases its lead in particular thanks to its Bandit 650 (660 sales) which puts an end to 5 months of domination of the Z750 (640 sales).

In addition to its stainless roadster, Suzuki also benefits from the good scores of its scooters: the Burgman 650 – 12th best seller of the month – and the 400 (read) – 15th – were sold respectively 146 and 128 copies. The TMax – which remains the master of the category with 436 sales – is therefore not the only maxi-scooter to seduce French people tired of being stuck in summer traffic jams. !

But Yamaha had a disappointing month and could not prevent Suz ‘from escaping over the first 7 months: 16,869 sales against 15,920. But as in 125, it was Honda which recorded the sharpest decline with models in decline. , like the Hornet which sticks in 8th position in sales, far behind the bestsellers of competitors.

On our side of the globe, the manufacturers can be satisfied: the counters of Harley, Ducati, Triumph and KTM are all in the green and exceed that of the global market (+ 3%).

The American ended the month of July 2006 with an 11.3% which confirms the good results of the month of June. But the arrival of the Twin Cam 96 portends an equally bright future (read).

Ducati and KTM sign respectively an increase of 5.6 and 6% but the best progress is in England: Triumph sales are up 21.6% compared to July 2005 and allow the manufacturer of Hinckley to consolidate its 7th place in the cumulation against Austrian supermotards and Italian divas.

The exception this time is BMW: the German falls by 18.6%! Yet its R 1200 RT still figures prominently in the Top 15 (183 sales) and the GS is 14th with 130 units sold..

But at the same time, sales of the F 800 are slow to take off – 23 S and 15 ST (read) -: the "sleeping licenses"and the new permits may not be ready to invest more than € 9,000 to get started…

Finally, it should be noted that Aprilia has registered 141 motorcycles, Moto Guzzi 107, Buell 72, GasGas 60, Gilera 40, Husqvarna 38, MV 28, Morini 8 and Voxan 4.
