It starts with a name that seems to have escaped a beatles hit. Mash Seventy. This little 125 doesn’t just have a pretty little face. She also has a serious success in her industry in her CV. In a few years, she came to undermine the stars of the market that are the CBF, Duke and YBR. Basically, a Chinese motorcycle, built by Qingqi but according to very French specifications. Guarantee ? Not necessarily. But the iPhone is well made in China, no ?!?
Let’s forget this parenthesis to take an interest in this small French motorcycle, with Chinese-manufactured blood and false airs of American nostalgia. A basic 125 is prized for its utility; with Mash, she wants to be desirable.
Under its underside, the machine is of a very simple design. The tech candies seem to have stalled for a long time. A nice little 124cc mono is installed in the steel cradle frame. Air-cooled, single ACT, 2 valves, one carb, and just over 11 horsepower to ride – 11.6 hp @ 8750 rpm. Not enough to make crazy performances; the machine will be content to orbit around 100 km / h.
But the strike force of this 125 Seventy, it is its mouth that hits the mark. A vintage and seductive side, it’s fashion and it retains its charm at all times. With the orange color topped with a checkered decoration, the Mash has a super nice tracker side. The deceptively single-seater saddle, the sausage pot and the spoked rims are there to complete the look. With that, the urge to dawdle in the hills is immediate. And to play it English-boy, difficult if not impossible to find better for its price. At less than 2000 euros, the Mash Seventy is unbeatable style / price / vintage ratio.
It seems sketchy and yet it hides many surprises. A single counter is present, with its needle, speed, trips … and a gear indicator engaged. The engine comes from a Suzuki technology dating from the Greek calends, in this case that of the GN 125. But it consumes little and offers the luxury of an electric starter and a kicker. The braking will have correct claims with its unique 220 mm disc and rear drum, without looking spectacular. Regarding the chassis and its suspension elements, we are in the basic, enough to drive you every day. A not very big fork and 2 side shocks, low cost version. Don’t look for the big beat, she’s not made for that.
Very small, all mischievous, the bike does not exceed 100 kilos dry. With its seat at 780 mm, its thin tires (90 at the front – 120 at the rear) and its wasp size, the 125 Seventy is not afraid to twirl between the streets.
Since its introduction, the Mash 125 Seventy has only gained ground. It does, however, drag a few pans, such as reports of rust on the first vintages, engine stalling and vibrations, and a few loose parts. We can qualify them as youthful defects. A new brand is never flawless from the start. To be confirmed in time.
No fuel gauge, a starter on the carburetor, a fuel tap, what a change of scenery. The kind of small bonds that we can either curse or credit the temptations of yesteryear. Modern motorcycles no longer allow us to taste the joy of passing the reserve with a frozen hand when we are launched on the highway. This has no importance whatsoever for a bucolic daily life or countryside trips. A small starlet in the making, and a fresh breeze in the category.
