The Scrambler gets a makeover at Morini. Appeared in 2009, the machine has from the start asserted its difference with its large 1200 engine. It now passes to a whole other dimension, more in line with the status to which Morini wants to rise.. Far from being a fashion victim, the Italian scrambler wants to be a fashion lady.
The genre now comes in multiple layers. For a simple and accessible model, let’s look near Mash or Benelli. A little more cachet, you have to go to Triumph. Premium? No problem, BMW and Ducati have this in stock. With the Moto-Morini, we hit the top of the range. It is also very difficult to imagine this machine wallowing in the mud. The Italian 1200 Scrambler seeks above all to show off its beautiful parts, its aluminum and its plastic rather than covering them with clods of earth.
Forget the old Srambler! This one shares very little with the old one. The dressing, the silhouette, the poise – everything has changed and clearly marks a break … as well as a clear genetic transfer from sis 1200 Milano. Following this new trend from the Italian manufacturer where the pencil lengthens the line, spreads it out without compressing it and then takes it into the mechanical ode. The Morini want to be beautiful with a touch of pride, and values, the scent of nobility and craftsmanship. In short, we want to make something beautiful.
The engine is an excellent illustration of this. It is one of the few items recovered from the old Scrambler. Except that the house twin, the Bialbero adapted for Euro4, plays with pomp without being furious. Look at the tortured and worked shape of the exhaust pipes. And this particularly elegant double silencer. Class for outings. But … we regret that they are no longer in the high position, like a real scrambler and like its predecessor. And then, the thruster may want to be seen, it still lost a little in the change. 117 horses in the past, 116 today. But Morini claims to offer a vigorous torque curve.
TO new identity, new technique. The Scrambler has revised its entire chassis, with a modified steel trellis frame and a tubular swingarm with eccentric tension adjustment. Although close to the Milano, the machine still obeyed the dictates of style to fit 17-inch spoke rims, surrounded by studded tires. Within obvious limits, the side roads thus seem within reach. And with the force! 110 nags for a 1200 roadster, that’s nice; but for a machine of this philosophy, it is already strong. And the front end made in the temper above. The inverted fork, fully adjustable, receives a DLC treatment on its sheaths, fork legs cut in the mass and radial monobloc brake calipers with 4 Brembo M50 pistons. Ranging from the set, 320 mm discs to stop the machine and a Bosch 9.1MP ABS disconnectable from the handlebars. The rear is entrusted to a 2-piston caliper around a 220 mm disc. Not far in front of him, the shock absorber is no longer offset laterally as on the ex-scrambler and resumes a classic position. It is also fully adjustable.
Moto-Morini wants to share his memories with us with this 1200 Scrambler. His emotions began in 1965 with the Corsaro Regolarità, an off-road variant of the famous 125 to make a good place in the off-road. The thought then flees to the enduros of the 80s where the Kanguro and Camel were born. Now, memories are flying to give way to a sometimes precious, often unrecognized motorcycle, which defends a highly qualitative bastion. Where a maximum of it will be produced, assembled and valued in Italy.
Certainly, a bit too much of a resemblance to the Milano roadster. But a high handlebars, a flatter saddle, a protective grid on the headlight and perforated plates on the posterior gives it this aspect which charms and challenges. The Morini Scrambler is more of a meeting in the woods than an adventure.
