Moto Morini Corsaro 1200 ZT in the test (2018)

With the ZT version, Moto Morini brings a new variant of the Corsaro 1200 to the people. The Moto Morini Corsaro 1200 ZT is based on the ZZ from 2017, but changes in detail make it an independent model.
Since Moto Morini launched the exciting 1200 V2 over twelve years ago, the Big Twin has fascinated with a strong acceleration and powerful bass. However, the Euro 4 standard forced the small Italian manufacturer to adapt the drive to the new regulations for 2017. The Corsaro ZZ was created from the predecessor Corsaro Veloce. It had to face a large naked bike comparison test straight away and promptly received criticism. “The engine of the test specimen stutters below 4,000 rpm and picks up unclean gas,” ranted colleague Munchinger at the time. With a new exhaust and modified engine mapping, the Italians now want the 87-degree V2 to have more refined manners. In fact, it reacts M.oto Morini Corsaro 1200 ZT already from 2,000 tours very well and still crisp-directly on gas commands and pulls through vigorously up to 9,300 rpm without grumbling.

Lighter, slimmer, more comfortable seating position
The 1187 cubic twin feels most comfortable between 3,500 and 7,500 rpm. Thanks to the wider torque range, the Moto Morini Corsaro 1200 ZT now allows lazy shifting driving. A clear advantage over the ZZ because the gear changes are still a bit rough. The engine cure costs nominally three HP peak power (factory specification ZT 137 HP, ZZ 140 HP). In view of the performance, however, that doesn’t matter at all. Unlike the ZZ, the ZT does not offer a standard automatic switch, but retrofitting is possible. However, due to the lack of ride-by-wire, the Quickshifter has to do without a blipper function. For this reason, one looks in vain for different driving modes even with the new one. Purism like in the good old days. Almost at least, because Moto Morini equipped the new model with traction control.
Morini Motorcycle
The Moto Guzzi Corsaro 1200 ZT is the successor to the Corsaro 1200 ZZ.
When looking at the naked bike, the new round headlight is immediately apparent. From an aesthetic point of view, clearly the better choice than the nested, small double headlights of the ZZ. The tank, which is now made of plastic instead of aluminum, only holds 14 instead of 18.7 liters as in the ZZ. Thanks to its much slimmer shape, the ZT looks much more graceful, which is also due to the more delicate front fender. The seating position also benefits from the new fuel drum, as the knee joint is tighter and the radian dimension smaller. This enables short-legged people to reach the ground better on the Moto Morini Corsaro 1200 ZT. Overall, the pilot sits enthroned very relaxed in conjunction with the higher and wider handlebars. Unfortunately, Moto Morini failed to make the now more free view of the engine more exciting. Because completely painted black, the powerful drive hardly stands out. The same applies to the black frame. A little more sophistication in the coloring of these components would certainly have done the ZT good. Great, on the other hand: There are also some carbon fiber parts on the ZT, such as the filigree license plate holder.
In Italy the ZT costs 15,990 euros
Thanks to the modified ergonomics, the Moto Morini Corsaro 1200 ZT easy can be chased through the thicket of bends. The (dry) weight, which has been reduced by two kilograms compared to the ZZ, certainly contributes a small amount to this. But the best comes at the end: The ZT is significantly cheaper than the ZZ. In Italy the ZT costs 15,990 euros – a huge 20 percent discount compared to the ZZ. That gives hope in this country too. It is therefore easy to get over the fact that the ZT strut, in contrast to the fully adjustable part of the ZZ, can only be adjusted in the rebound stage and the spring base. Then, corsairs, go into battle!
